Emmanuel Malou thread

Prohm's quote "He'll just know what he needs to do to finish up more in the summer, if that's feasible". Sounds like they know for sure that he won't have the credits to graduate this spring. Will then have to determine whether it's possible to get enough credits over the summer.

If it's academics that keep Malou from coming to Iowa St, then I'll be pretty disappointed in Iowa St for not making sure he got his associates. I still think the issue may be eligibility, but it also looks like there's academic work to be done.

I hope ISU isn't doing homework for recruits now. I want to push the envelope but I'm not on board with that.

Definitely sounds like there will be more work to get done this summer in the classroom.... just a matter of how much? By next week it sounds like they will only know how much more work will need to be done this summer and whether or not it's even feasible to get that amount of work done this summer or not?

Several hurdles yet to overcome it sounds like. Both eligibility and academic concerns. Doesn't sound too promising. And someone like Malou could easily be the difference between us making the NCAA tourney next year or not. Without him, our options offensively become fairly limited. Sure we'll have some guards that can score, but no threats outside of the guards.

If ISU was doing his homework there wouldn't be any eligibility problems.

The stupid one this board sometimes never ceased to amaze me. We'll have arguably the best point guard and one of best back courts in the nation with depth. I don't think scoring will be a problem

I didn't say literally do his homework, but I would hope we put someone in place to help him, tutor or something. I understand he wasn't enrolled at Iowa St, so it makes it slightly more complicated, but that's the "pushing the envelope" I expect.

And maybe Iowa St did all that, and there are still issues. Which means he was far more behind than we all thought.

Do you think ISU should start sending tutors to monitor incoming high school recruits too? Its not up to Iowa State to get Malou his degree, its up to Emmanuel Malou to get his degree.

I think ISU needs to do whatever they can do, within compliance rules, to help any recruit who has at least verbally committed to ISU become eligible and improve their academic situation, but at some point, the majority of the burden has to be on the student athlete. If Malou has not done the work or is unwilling/unable to do the work, then that is on him. **** happens.

I just feel bad for Manny. He's gotten the s*** end of the stick at every turn. Trying to immigrate to the US is hard enough, let alone being preyed on by ABCD and a coach who's selling the American dream to international kids, and conditions at Yuba weren't much better. Kid deserves a year to finally go to a real school and play on a real team and have an actual support system around him. I get the eligibility issues, but this is one that will make the NCAA look even more tone deaf before. Malou's been taken advantage of at every stage.

He was at Yuba 1.5 years then came to DMACC in January. Obviously everything at ABCD Prep is null and void so to get his AA he needs to be full time 2 years and pass. Could be he's just 1-2 summer classes away from getting his AA.

I think when a highly rated recruit moves to attend school 10 miles from your campus, you do whatever you can and more to get him enrolled and eligible to play for the next season. This isn't some walk on were talking about. The coaching staff knows more about his abilities than I do, but this a kid that could potentially move you from middle of the pack in the Big 12, to top 2.

Like Dryburn said, if Malou is not putting forth any effort, then that's a different story, but I think him moving closer to Iowa St shows that, at least at some point, he wanted to do the work to become eligible.

I'm not a member of the grammar police, but if you are going to broadly proclaim the stupidity of CF you shouldn't post something that reads like English is your second language.

2 out of our top 3 scorers are gone, with one of them being our only real "go to guy" this past season when we absolutely had to have a basket.

We have to make up for about 46 points a game lost due to graduation or transfers out of the program. Not an easy task by any means to begin with, but much more difficult when Malou was going to be counted on to provide a large chunk of that.

Isn't Yuba a community college in California? If so why didn't he finish up there?

The athletes that are at ISU get plenty of support, but they still have to do something with that support and put out some kind of effort. The staff has a role in encouraging that effort, but it's still up to the athlete to get their job done.

I thought Malou's issue with the NCAA isn't about his academics but about when his college "clock" started.

I get the impression it's complex and potentially both. Even see Prohm helping him to the next level in case it doesn't work out. Good for our reputation and good for Malou who has had it pretty bad.
