Emmanuel Malou thread

I appreciate the kind words! Glad to see there is still some people on this board like you. Can't wait for the Cap City league to start up again!

Thanks for your contributions. I enjoy the extra stuff since I'm not close to the action but enjoy the off-season news

Texted/DM'ed same thing. You posted on scouts site saying you messaged with Malou today regarding the 20/80 with him coming to ISU.
You are correct. I did talk to him today. I just try not to say I did because this happens. That's why going forward I am going to have a hard time sharing anything.

A week ago at this time (even before the draft stuff) I would have been like 60/40 that Malou would make it to ISU. There were always major questions. Today, I'd say I'm more like 20/80. Gonna need a hail mary based off of what I've heard recently.
Seems like his story needs to be told on a bigger stage. A refugee in australia comes to the U.S. with a dream and was swindled, lied to, made to live 6 to a room for 2 years then had to go to juco and pay his own way sleeping on the floor because was told that's what he need to do to get eligable and all the while he got it done in the classroom and did everything people told him he needed to do. Then he gets the rug pulled out? I think his best shot is some outrage over letting red tape screw a victim and pour more salt in his wound. He never had a chance in this deal.

I bet most on this board follow these athletes on social media. If that makes me a creep, I guess there's a lot of creepy people in this world.

Do yourself a favor and ignore swirly and crazy audrey, you will enjoy CF much more, trust me.

Well, I am only contributing to the thread-derailment, but WOW. thompsonclone is 100x the fan than most posters on this board. Seems like someone attacks him every couple months on here because they think that social media is creepy. Like RustShack said earlier, most Athletes WANT to be followed on social media. Tymar sutton just tweeted today that he wishes he had more iowa state followers.

Really only 2 poster gave you **** and they are ******** to everyone regardless of what the reason is. Like I said just ignore them (both literally and figuratively).

I'm not wading through this muck, so if someone could help me out, what's the latest on Malou? It sounds like it's not looking as good as before on Twitter.

I also appreciate your posts about recruits and videos, especially those from Cap City. You may be a bit obsessive about it, but at least it results in something valuable for us . . . unlike the guys who only complain about you and give us nothing of value. Carry on.

So, is Malou blowing off finals to get his NBA evaluation? Hopefully, he was able to make some arrangement and take exams early or online or something.

He probably has a good chance of being drafted, just because he is young and with tons of potential, physically and skills.

He's not that young by NBA standards

This board is so weird. Within 20 posts, we went from unnecessarily bashing Thompson to circle jerking him. None of which were posts about Malou. We're a strange, strange bunch at CF.

I just checked your join date to make sure it was not your first day on CF. Carry on.

Since Bode's not around. #CyNoobyPants or #Cyrocksmynaivete

He's not going to get drafted and he is 22. So he's not young for the draft either

I had no idea about these Malou issues. So sad; it looks like the kid is being unfairly scrutinized by the NCAA. I am not just sad as a Cyclone fan, but feel horrible for him as a fellow human being. He was a key piece; without him, our front line will truly be laughably small.

I guess that I am still confused on what he needs to be eligible for next year. I thought that he just needed
A) An AA degree from JUCO
B) To be able to show that next year is not more than his 5th year after HS graduation or after enrolling full time in college.

Is that all he needs. I was under the impression that a JUCO transfer didn't need a HS diploma, any particular GPA in HS or JUCO, any test score on any particular test or any clearinghouse review of classes taken.

If the NCAA let this guy play football, why can't Malou play basketball?

I know none of you are NCAA compliance officers (I think), but, a question semi-related to the Malou situation about how something would be treated.

I went to high school in Boone. While there, I semi-predated the "AP revolution" to college prep courses where you take a class to take a test to receive or not receive college credit. We had AP classes for Spanish and, I think, some sort of composition or literature but not for other humanities, social sciences, sciences, or mathematics. At that time in Iowa, if your high school did not offer a class, you could "cross-enroll" or something and take it at DMACC for free/the state would reimburse you for the cost of the class (not sure which, but same result). Since the high school did not offer American history or true calculus (only a wussy pre-calc class), I went ahead and took them at DMACC in Boone. Easy enough to go to DMACC at 7:30AM for calculus and history in the morning and head back to school for band and afternoon classes and activities, right? Particularly after I was able to drive myself around.

Getting it done before college, where my time got pinched, with a really good instructor in a small class in Boone, was one of the better decisions that I've ever made. Made that eventual economics degree so much easier. To my question...

I had some non-scholarship or partial-scholarship offers for track and cross country (mostly the small, private schools throughout Iowa and like South Dakota and things, nothing fancy) coming out of high school, as well, though I declined them. This was because (a) sick of running, didn't even do track my senior year, partially because I needed the time for calculus and (b) I would rather go to a big research university, just down the road, like ISU. I could live at home and commute that way, too, and this was back when ISU tuition was super-duper cheap prior to the recession. Graduating *during* the recession was another matter...

So what would the NCAA have thought about me taking 6-10ish credits from DMACC for two years to build up college credit in an era before AP was as ubiquitous as it is now? Would they have, hypothetically, stripped a year of eligibility from me for still being in high school and the age of a high school student yet, at the same time, taking credits from a junior college? Not saying this is directly the situation with Malou, who has went through a million more twists and turns, but I just wonder how they factor something like this into their requirements.
