I'm not sure the exact source of pain you're getting from your ankle so take this with a grain of salt.

I'm gonna be that guy, but I'd play it cautious if I were you. Just be careful you don't do more damage by pushing it this weekend. Know your limits and listen to the pain if it starts getting too severe. Since it's an ankle, it's not a muscle issue that will work itself out after loosening up.

I'm going to add my 2 cents. It seems like you've been nursing it for quite a while now. Did you ever get it checked by a doctor?
These two are being pretty wise. I'm thinking that KC may have an orthopedic boot or two you could borrow.

did the 3 miles but only got about 1.5 in before ankle started hurting. Found that if I stopped to just rotate it a couple times (and then figured out how to do that mid-stride) it helped quite a bit. Not sure what that means but I'm for sure not running Thursday. This will give me the same gap that led to my fast 4.5 so I'll just go for that and do my normal gym workout tomorrow and try to get my heart rate going. Plus kickball and maybe an abs workout on Thursday.

I missed this earlier post. If you can adjust it midstride and have it feel better, you're probably ok. My achilles will tighten up a bit on me when I run. Then I find myself favoring the ankle, leading to an awkward landing and magnifying the issue. A lot of times, I am better off allowing the ankle to be more loose for a half mile and it will take care of itself.

Good luck with your issue whatever you work out.

On January 25th, we had Chinese food and Mrs. JCyclonee had a fortune cookie that read, "Three months from today, good things will be happening to you." She put this reminder in our calendar. Sure enough, yesterday, she was offered the department lead position at her school.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. JCyclonee on her new position and also in celebrating the omniscient fortune cookie. Fortune cookies, I will never doubt you again.

Congrats to the missus!

I'm not sure what HunkyDory's is but I would guess the answer is yes. The chorus went:

P/ss me off
F*****g jerks
Get on my nerves

It seemed pretty cool to a mildly rebellious teen-aged JCyclonee and his friends at the time.
Hunky Dory's was a large club in Ames.
It started as The Filmore, A live music venue. (U2 & Joan Jett played there) and changed names over the years.

Hunky dorys was the redneck country bar. Where hickory part banquet hall is. At midnight they would have rock hour.

yesterday was the first time I'd discovered that I could do that. If I gave it a quick rotate, it'd feel good for a couple minutes then before I'd do it again. I definitely lead with my right and I found that if I tried to work the left harder instead, I did actually get the same soreness on that side too. But yeah, I think I would do the same thing with slightly favoring it and then it changing my stride making it worse. Do you think that is an Achilles thing? I had been thinking maybe post-tib but I can do the heel raises and flexions that are indicators without pain.
If there are stretches/warm ups I can do beforehand to help loosen it up, I should figure that out.

To address the other quoted posts, it's almost certainly some type of overuse thing from getting back in too fast. It's not a sharp pain or something that makes me stop, but dull and gets better over time. I can run through it but I don't like doing that.

My plan is to not run for a while after Saturday and then test small distances. If it doesn't get better after plenty of rest, then I'll get it checked out. My guess is right now they're going to tell me to rest it and do what I'm planning to do anyway. At the least, I might stop in at the local Fleet Feet and see what they think of my shoes. I thought I had some mileage left in them but maybe my gym classes with all their jumping and such wear out the padding faster even though the actual distance covered is low. Because I've had a couple people here and IRL suggest new shoes for ankle pain.

Where was this place located and was it still around in the late 80's?
It is a large Butler building at highway 30 & South Duff.
It opened in about 1981 or 82 and judging by a quick search it closed in 2001
I'm not sure when it switched to a country venue.

When U2 played there they were little known. I think it was $6 to get in. I had an old roommate that worked there when it first opened. He said Joan Jett was the trashiest woman he had ever met.

I don't know. I don't see it.

isn't the weather supposed to be pretty nasty in the KS region today? I was actually reading in the paper yesterday about how the weather service is trying to figure out the right way to warn people. Like with today's weather, they could tell last Thursday things were likely to be bad. But how do you warn people in advance without crying wolf or them having enough warning of a tornado that they leave their safe building and try to outrun it in a car, etc. Was very interesting. They were working with some social media experts to try and figure out the right balance.

It is a heavily debated topic that is basically a no win scenario. No matter what you will have those that will pull one model run and go with it (the weather threads on here for example). A lot of people have a hard time grasping something that is not perfect or constant and thus gripe loudly when what they hear does not play out.

They said on the news that schools are canceled in OK because of the threat of tornados.

That seems to go too far.

This is also heavily debated. Something like 10 years ago a principal in Mississippi (I think) kept kids in school and after hours I believe because a tornado was heading right for them. Multiple kids died and he took a lot of heat for it. The flip side of it is what are those kids situations at home and how many people under 18 are going to heed warnings and seek appropriate shelter. Probably less than 50%.

Sadly there is no right answer. Just like do you try and outrun a tornado in your car.

It was country in the early to mid 90s. PapaLew & I used to go there. Sadly, most of the college kids had no clue how to two step in rhythm with the songs, and they two-stepped through the waltzes as well, so we usually left early. From 8 to 10 though it was pretty good for dancing in the style we like - two-step, triple-step, cowboy cha-cha, circle dances & line dances. Something for every country style.

It was country in the mid '90's...actually kinda funny timing, I was trying to think of the name of the place last week...I was in there a few times in college, but was thinking of it because my friend was a huge prince fan, and when he was in Ames for a concert, he had a preshow party there. I wondered why at a country bar, but then realized it was one of the nicer/larger places for something like that. This was during "the artist formerly known as prince" symbol days, and my friend approached him and asked how he should address him. Prince said "just call me buddy".

Of course you outrun the tornado in your car, who wouldn't??

The issue is more in urban areas and traffic jams from everyone trying to do that.

McConnell AFB in Wichita has moved all aircraft to somewhere else. Usually they go to Grand Forks. Kind of cool to see them launch when they do this as it is around 15 KC-135s launching one after the other.
