Also let's be honest... kinda looked like we fouled them at the end of regulation at mid-court. Refs swallowed their whistles there and allowed us to go to OT.
ISU had numerous plays that they were 100% in control of that they could have made but didn't. It stinks to have such a glaringly obvious bad call as that goal tend but it happens. I am sure that a Texas Tech fan that was watching closer than I was could find a glaringly obvious bad call that went against them that prevented THEM from winning in regulation as well. After blown calls against him too. We didn't get any contact fouls inside hardly at all and there was plenty to choose from
Refs sucking is not confined to the Big 12. It's universal to all conferences. Best to stick to worrying about defensive intensity, free throws, etc... things the team is actually in control of.I thought the refs sucked... again. I've thought about ISU leaving the Big XII, but go where, does anyone really think the officiating would be more beneficial to us? ISU can't control what the refs do, (continually bend us over), but they can do a LOT more to not get put in that position in the first place. Until they put teams away, teams they should NOT be losing to, expect the same from the refs.

I'm not normally one to bang on the refs but these guys were bad. I felt they penalized legal defense all night. Several times I felt our defenders had beaten the offensive player to the spot, were straight up or even retreating and got called for blocks when offensive players barreled into them. Those either have to be a no-call or an offensive foul. (Would have been fine with no-calls in these situations last night.)
The missed goaltend was horrid and their player absolutely traveled before his ridiculous banked-in three. You see that play in girls basketball a lot, we call it a "bunny hop." Normally if it is close I will give a player the benefit of the doubt that he was still in the process of securing the ball. I didn't feel that was the case this time. He clearly secured the ball and hopped backwards. Travel.
The Cyclones STILL should have put this team away but they certainly didn't get any help.
You're too damn kind. But I have spent more than my fair share of time with my nose in the rules! Of course I'm only a high school ref and some college rules are different but I don't think any of those in question last night are!I think after a game like last night it's very easy and only correct to be upset about the officiating (I know I was, I haven't yelled at the TV like that after the non-goaltend call in a long time), but you're criticism counts for more than most due to your background.
IMO, while it's lower-profile than the screw job against KU in Hilton back in '13, it's just as egregious an error. Thankfully we're not on the bubble the same way we were three years ago.
Big 12 refs:
We'll stop a live ball to check the shot clock, but we won't stop a dead ball 3 pointer from counting.
Poor, poor victim. As if ISU is the only team that has bad calls go against them. Like I said, I am sure that Texas Tech fans had some issues with a few calls where Niang committed an offensive foul but the TT player was called for the foul or the half dozen traveling calls that don't get made against him in any game. Ever wonder why people only start "**** these refs" threads after a loss?A Jayhawk fan should not be allowed in/around any thread related to officiating. You're fanbase would absolutely blow a gasket if they have had to deal with the calls that often go against ISU.
Oklahoma shot 7 free throws in their game @ISU. SEVEN.What really pisses me off about the officiating is I truly can't remember the last time we had a game in Hilton where we as the home team truly got treated like the home team all game. I know there have been times but this year I haven't seen it. That's what upsets me is we are not getting benefit of doubt calls at home..meanwhile we go on road and it's like official as need to make up for it double.
Was it even the Big 12 when that game was played or was it still the Big 8?This may be the best summary of Big 12 basketball and KU privilege ever made on this site.
Eh, and? Are players required to stay inside the lines at all times? We've already discussed this silliness ad nauseum, a half a picture means nothing. Was Mason holding the ball in his hand when he touched the lines? No, so who cares? That's all nice and good, but as you can see........not all teams can control things like KU.
So Mason is standing on the line while the ball is somewhere else. I fail to see the point you're trying to make. Next you'll start whining about court dimensions again and fail to realize that guidelines are not rules. If the guidelines four the ncaa court dimensions were hard fast rules then how exactly does Vanderbilt continue to play every year with their team areas on the end lines instead of the sidelines like the court guidelines denote?I think if you're allowed to continue as a poster on this site and in threads where reffing is discussed it should be a rule this is your profile pic.![]()
