***Official Meltdown Thread***

no problem. You did write that column.

I am very grateful for the 5 years and for Georges and Monte and jameel and Matt and naz. They are great players. But our depth is a big problem and that's all on Fred. And everyone with brain function knows this team would be better with Fred. Only because he's the one they know.

So so when I got told how great of a favor he was doing us (TJ), it irritates me.
Your meltdown was and will be unmatched, but your Cyclone paranoia did yield you to being one of the first on to Fred leaving.

And we don't have to live(?) in Kansas.

I drove through Kansas once. Possibly the first time I saw oil rigs. Which was an upgrade from Nebraska.

Just make sure the gas tank is full. I made it, but I drove a Ford Explorer so it got close a couple of times.

Oh, and ISU didn't make the Final Four THAT year either.

Our offense is not the problem in the general sense- it is a problem is the sense that was/has always been our only hope in countering our poor defense and rebounding. That counter is not coming.

Our defense and rebounding has always been pretty poor (recall we lost a similar game to Baylor last year), but now due to the same roster weaknesses plus even less depth than before, it puts even more pressure for what we were designed to do (offense) to be damn near perfect.

In hindsight, Fred should have taken the GS job. He likely would have a ring, and ISU a couple of actual recruiting classes. Might have to give back the Big 12 Tourney, but maybe also the UAB loss. Really anything is preferred over the stop in recruiting and leaving in June before what should have been an all-time peak year.

Is Monte hurt? He is a very good pg, but imo his game is the same as last year just on a system team not playing the system quite as well. He does not have the shooters to work with and we can't give him any rest to be fresh.

This should not be a meltdown. It was easy enough to see this coming as early as last spring and last year's team over-performing exposed us to some unrealistic expectations.

Totally agreed. This is the same conversation we had last year. The expectations presumed solid growth all around and that growth just didn't happen outside of Thomas IMO.

Who the hell is the strength and conditioning coach?..McKay is flat out weak and Monte isn't much better. Do are bigs know how to move their feet on defense? How many times did Baylor get free drives to the basket? Matt Thomas is the only player who looks like he has a clue how to defend..

So taking bad shots never leads to easy baskets for the other team

This. Baylor scored 30 points in final 8:05 of game after switching to junk D. It was offensive execution late leading to run outs that cost us as much as D.

I think Niang's been fantastic. Possibly surpassing my expectations so far.

Issue is at times the team is literally standing around waiting for him to do something. That's not a good sign.

make your free throws at the end, we miss 4 or 5, they make theirs
We have a fairly small margin for victory. We have been so good at consistently playing smarter, more efficient basketball than our opposition that we tend to think otherwise. In short, we expect our 90+% performance 100% of the time.

237d 05h 52m until football vs. UNI.

We played terrible D and they just dominated us in the paint. Jameel had only 1 foul until the very end. We need him playing more aggressively on D and going for blocks like last year. He should try to cut down on trying to create his own shots too...

Even with the coaching upheaval and the loss of a Sr. double digit scorer that just happens to be the leader of the team for the season.

It's just like football, the media just has a stranglehold on the uninformed basketball minds in Cyclone Nation.

We expect not to give up 60 point halves. Seems reasonable.

you know why otherwise good FT shooters miss at the end? Because they are ******* tired and that is because our previous staff stopped recruiting.

Don't get me wrong, Niang HAS been fantastic and his stats are trending up across the board. His growth has been steady from year to year and we all probably take him for granted, but we also pretty know what we are going to get with Georges. However, this group truly needed solid growth from everyone, and while Thomas has done so by leaps and bounds, I just can't see the same with the other players at this point.

And I completely agree with Niang as THE faciliator on this team. When he is taken out of the action through fouls or defenses, our guys look completely lost.
