unbelievable watch this

I will say - your continued attempts to put words in my mouth, minimize science and psychology, and to change the subject are entertaining to watch. It's just flat-out poor debate tactic, but still amusing.

In January this teacher took the kids phone because he couldn't have it in class.

Judging by the words used, they aren't messing around.

But the teacher probably shouldn't have taken the kids phone because it's the kids phone. Am I doing it right?

You seem to think that being wrong is mutually exclusive; that if one is wrong the other must be right. They're both wrong in this instance. The teacher was wrong and should have known that taking the phone, rather than being given the phone, would escalate things. A teacher could have given a zero. A teacher could have asked the kid to go to the principal's office. A teacher could have asked the other kids to leave the classroom and discussed it with the kid. A teacher could have asked to talk to the kid privately in the hallway.

Similarly, the kid could have not been a little d-bag. He hopefully was arrested for assault and referred to juvenile probation or alternative school for a while.

But the very fact that people are unable to see that both sides are wrong in how that was handled speaks volumes to how broken parts of our society are.

No. That's not what I said. I said one individual personal anecdote is not relevant. Patterns of behavior are. I also don't think one person saying "I was never spanked and I am now on law review" are relevant, either.

I challenge you to find any current studies that are pro-spanking. Search for them. I'm not talking about individual child "experts," I'm talking about psychological/sociological studies with means and norms. (Which are, again, markedly different from your personal stories.) Or, better yet, find this 1:1 ratio of which you speak, where there are even numbers with studies that have found spanking to be un-beneficial.

http://www.newsmax.com/US/spanking-studies-children-spock/2010/01/07/id/345669/ That was tough. I get the feeling that this is more about you being right than about trying to help kids/anyone.

I don't see a single actual study citation there. I can discuss studies that may or may not exist, too. One study in Battle Creek, MI, found that I was found overwhelmingly to be the best poster on Cyclone Fanatic. If I just say it was in a study, it must be true, right?

You can absolutely get that feeling, but you'd be wrong - I have several thousand posts on this board that prove otherwise. While I am right, it's only because I've done extensive research this on the best way to deal with my own children and others.

These kids need an *** whooping. Plain and simple. Until then its going to be more of the same. I know this gets said about every generation, but these high school kids today, I fear there is no hope. Actually I know there is no hope. Bunch of welfare babies taught that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. When Someone smacks them with some act right, its time to burn the city. You are all a bunch of ******* and raise your kids as a bunch of *******. ******* equal failures. "but bmb, you think she deserved to be assaulted" yes I do. Had she been given that punishment, and there was no video, no national outrage, next time she was told to do something, she would have done it. That's how you learn. I didn't misbehave in high school because our male teachers would f you up if you got to far out of line. The pussification of this country is unbearable.... What happens when these kids get into the workforce (lets be honest, its a life of welfare ahead of them)? Maybe this *** whooping could have changed her life around. Teach her to respect other people and act right. Nope, I guarantee in 20 years, she is still a **** up and a failure living off someone else. I hate you all.

And this, folks, is an example of how a person turns out if they are subjected to corporal punishment.

:jimlad:

They need to ban the use of cell phones in schools, there is no purpose for it. Then stuff can get handled the way it needs to get handled without some world star hiphop bull **** video coming out to get a bunch of people fired.

I'm pretty sure they are banned from school. I know when I was in high school 10 plus years ago they were banned. The problem, as you stated is that kids don't care.

Lol...no, they need to find a way to use technology to assist in the mission of the schools, use the kids love of the technology to work in their favor. This is why America is so back asswards and falling behind the rest of the world.

Yes, we need cell phones in schools because texting, instagram and snapchat are going to help us get back ahead.

The level of fail of this post trips into absurdity. I pray for you that this is an internet act, and that you're actually considerably brighter than this, but just trolling.

Absolutely. Get them awesome wi-fi. Allow them to check in and earn rewards for different tasks, text them or email them extra credit, announcements, etc. during the day. Have Instagram contests. Feature students or the school on twitter that gets the kids to engage the institution socially. I don't want to get in to the terrible way our pre-secondary education system works it's pathetic really but that is a different thread.

I was deadset on being a History teacher for a long time. I always had the idea of doing quizzes via text message for those that wanted to/had the capability. I also had a bunch of activities involving phones/tablets that I wanted to do involving researching things online and then needing to post to a class facebook page.

The best part is, if kids are going to be on their phones doing something else on their phone/not participating they can do that, that's their choice, but they aren't disrupting anything because everyone is on their phone already.

I was just exhibiting the irony of you calling people names while diminishing current kids as disrespectful. It was a joke, I thought pretty clearly by the jimlad.

Beat them so they won't do it again. Yup that seems to work in prison.

Insert jimlad here.

yes, that would have got us back on track. to bad you didn't get that facebook page up and running, we would have been the leader in the global economy in no time.

No matter what there is no one size fits all solution.

Maybe she would have responded to some tough love so to speak. Maybe not. Some kids can be turned around by the corrections system. It appears as most don't though. Some kids straighten up when they are put in a military school. Some don't.

Its an article describing the study genius. You can find the study from the article.
It describes how many people were interviewed, how many years it took place, and statistics to back it up. Not sure what more you want. It doesn't matter what I post. You could look up pro spanking studies and see as many as you wanted but your not interested in doing that. You have your mind made up before taking any other facts into consideration. I have already said that most children shouldn't be spanked. You have a narrow mind and this is all about you being right.

This post is a pretty good example of what I'm talking about.

If you aren't first you're last. Getting the right answer is more important than actually knowing what you are talking about. Small steps are meaningless steps. Every idea is a bad idea until it's a popular idea.
