Jamie Pollard...

His gig is pretty damn cushy. Someone would have to offer him a lot of money to take the same job, in heat, somewhere else... Not to say someone can't write checks bigger than ISU's, but I'm not convinced that money is the only deciding factor for Pollard's career options.

Maybe the next level for Pollard is to hire a coach that wins a football national championship?

Maybe president of an athletic conference?

Maybe a senior position in the NCAA?

I don't know. I no longer like to assume anyone wants to be here forever. Well, except Rhoads.

The implication of the thread is Jamie should go. So, who would be better? Look back at where we were when Jamie came to ISU and see where we are now. To let a poor football record result in a call for a new AD is a very narrow perspective. Jamie has been a terrific AD and a terrific person. Nearly every sport is in a far better position than before his arrival and facilities have been tremendously improved. Iowa State is relevant in the Big12, though not currently in football!
 
Whether or not JP would want this job is mostly a function of what he would think of living in LA. Now, living in LA with USC AD money has some big time perks, but for JP, I'm not sure I see it.
 
So with the SEZ, I don't see that as anything Pollard really did. A huge, and I mean huge donation made that happen. Same way with the basketball facility, huge donation made that happen as well.

And who do you think is normally in charge of greasing the skids and closing deals of that size? Sukup and Reiman didn't just wake up one morning and decide out of nowhere to cut 8-figure checks to the athletic department.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that. Pollard definitely has been a successful AD. But a lot of the stuff he gets credit for would have happened with any competent athletic director. He had the luck of being at ISU at a time when outside factors caused our budget to explode and provided for the ability to build a bunch of new facilities. He's done a good job prioritizing stuff, and deserves credit for that. But most of it would have happened regardless of who was in charge. Where Jamie deserves a huge amount of credit is his work during realignment. But his biggest failing is hiring and firing (or keeping) coaches. And that's a huge part of his job as AD. In that role he has been absolutely dismal, especially in the sports that drive the department. And ISU can't afford to have him screw up again on the upcoming coaching search. Nor can they afford to have him not pull the trigger on firing Rhoads.

I guess that's one way to look at it. There are probably lots of schools that get a $25 million donation to expand the football stadium after the football team wins 5 games in two years. Can't believe things like that fall into Pollard's lap.
 
Many of you will realize how good Pollard has been once he's gone.

Seriously, why do people think Dan McCarney would make a good AD? Being unable to successfully manage a D1 FBS FB program (twice) qualifies one to be an AD?

I realize that but people on here make it sound like Pollard is responsible for making it all happen when that not the case.

People need to remember that in football, in a 9 league game season, were still fricken Iowa state... We'll get there but it will take us a whole hell of a lot longer than anyone else... And then we'll lose.

What-the-eff-ever. Revenues went up because Texas stayed in the conference and got us all a sweetheart TV deal.

Jamie was just here to spend the money. Anyone could do that.
 
Some days I think this fanbase doesn't deserve JP and all the great things happening to this university.

Take off the blinders, our Football program has only 6 home games compared to the usual 7, has to play 9 teams that are or have received votes for Top-25, and has suffered more than any other Big 12 school due in recruiting due to the BIG 12 alignment crap.

Yes, some of the errors on the field have been painful, but the odds for ISU football are just so stacked against them this year....Anyone who wants a new coach needs to take a look at the dumpster fires happening in the college football world the last few years - even with all the resources those programs have, prestige, legacy, great weather, money, etc.

I'm not a CPR apologist. This team needs more discipline, and to stop making errors, but I also think we need to take into consideration the reality of the situation.
