This isn't entirely true, and we have discussed this before. BF has turned down several elite team requests to play in Hilton. He has turned down both Tara and Geno most recently that we know of. A loss to either of these schools wouldn't hurt the RPI.

Please site a source for this. Never heard of it.

They may have offered us Home-Away-Home, or something otherwise not square. And you know we wouldn't take that. TV wants good matchups, and wbb just isn't bringing it to our level yet. A December UConn-ISU game isn't going to drive ratings, like Okla or Baylor will.

Kansas State is playing a home and away with UCONN, not unbalanced stuff. We play the weak schedule we do because that is what our coach wants. The no one will play us in Hilton crap is just that, crap. Anyone in the athletic department using the Hilton excuse is simply lying and it diminishes their integrity although I think it is mostly fans using the Hilton rationale.

It is what it is because that is the way they want it and it will not change.

Good for KSU, and why don't you look at the rest of their non-conference schedule and tell me how tough it is? It's not. The same can be said for OSU, KU, TTU, OU, WVU, and Baylor all weak non-conference schedules. TCU and Texas have the best non-conference schedules. There are a lot more coaches in the B12 who are scheduling light in the non-conference, so for people to continue to complain that we are the only one to do it is sad.

Tell me, what good is it going to do for KSU when they go to UConn and get blown out by 50 points? My guess is not much.

Doesn't matter since we will not. Most of the league does not either although OU has been an exception some years. Can't remember if last year or year before when Coach Cole actually overdid it with a crazy strong non-conference. My post was mostly about those who say we cannot schedule differently because no one will play us.

For the last few years this discussion starts once the schedule is posted. To me there are a couple of things to consider. First, if we were to only schedule teams in the top 50 RPI how many would be willing to only agree to come to Ames without a return game the next year at their home court. If they demand a home and home game that cuts down on home games in the preseason for fans. Second if the tougher schedule was done (and these sometimes are done years ahead) and it was a year that we had a young team and we lose most of these games and that takes us out of the big dance would fans be happy to say "well we played a tough preseason so that is why we did not make it". My first thought is there would be posters who would complain about why we had such a tough schedule that kept us out of the tourney. IMO the goal is to have a preseason schedule that gets us ready for the Big 12 (with a number of wins) so that a decent number of wins there gets us to the tourney.

Or how about a preseason schedule that helps get us ready for the tourney? After all, we've been "one and done" four of the last five years, including two first-round losses on our home court. Maybe something has to change?

If you were Geno, would you pick at K State, or at Hilton Magic? This is what I'm saying. No one with a choice picks our place.

Geno doesn't shy away from anything. He wanted a home and home with either Iowa or ISU for Kiah Stokes. Didn't happen. And BF is good friends with Genos assistant.

I have asked this question before of those that want a tougher schedule. If we (as I noted only scheduled teams in the top 50 RPI) do that and 1. have fewer home games due to home and home requirements and 2. lose half of them and don't make the big dance due to a tough Big 12 schedule, would you be OK with that? I have no issue with playing tougher schools in the pre-season as long as we compete and win most of the Big 12 scheduled games. If we get to crazy and fail to make the tourney a couple years in a row that will kill recruiting.

No one is saying that EVERY game has to be against a top 50 team.

Then to you, how many? This year we have 9 home games before the conference starts. Two are ex. games and one is with Iowa. Of the remaining 6 if you were scheduling, how many do you want with top 50 teams?

I think there should be at least 2/3 interesting/good games at home every season. That can include Iowa. Also, I am not advocating for scheduling UConn, Notre Dame and Stanford. How about Green Bay, Maryland, Dayton, Purdue, Vanderbilt.... Just someone that might give us a competitive home game for once.

I believe we are not that far apart on whom we should schedule. The only issue is how do we get the teams you suggested scheduled without them wanting a home and home contract? As a long time season ticket holder I want as many home games as possible. It is a farce that when we play Drake at their place they up the ticket price as they know we follow our team.

As a long time season ticket holder there are games I would not cross the street to watch. So in my mind we already have fewer home games.

While I know there are/will be games that we blow the other team out I still go to SUPPORT our players. I have seen many of our fair weather fans as they only show up a few times a year. I see the empty seats in prime areas for many games. It is sad we have season ticket holders who feel they will only attend games they feel are worthy of watching. I will be at every home game no matter who we are playing as our players deserve our support.

I agree with everything you have said. My view is that the players need support even in the blow out wins. These young ladies work very hard to be the best they can be and deserve fan support. I spend good $ on my season tickets and they allow me addmission to 17-19 home games each year amd that means I will be at ALL home games every year.

It also means that I don't leave until AFTER the game is over!!

You must sit near where we sit. There is one couple (middle aged so don't have to be home early) who sit near us. They never cheer, just sit there on their hands and always leave with about 5 minutes left, no matter what the score is. I believe the tickets were given to them as the older couple who used to sit there (and never left early) no longer attend. We are counting the days till the first game, Go Cyclones!!
