My mom used to name her cars, and I found it strange back then. I think she finally straightened around, because she no longer does it.

Welp - had to make an unscheduled road trip to an impound lot in KC today. Had a lot of things I wanted to get done today; so did PapaLew.

Remember we did a big car switch last winter with our son down there? Elmer got stolen from his parking lot three weeks ago....aaaaaaaannnnnd, turns out he never got around to taking care of the title exchange & licensing. Elmer was still wearing his Iowa plates.

Good news: cops found Elmer & towed him to the impound around 2am last night. Bad news: cops wouldn't release Elmer to son because the plate search showed us as owners.

Bad news: we couldn't deal with it over the phone, or via fax, etc. We had to be there IN PERSON to break Elmer out of car jail.

Good news: the idiots had been using Elmer as their personal car, and when he was impounded there were not one, not two, but THREE cell phones in and under the seats. Plus two large sacks of groceries in the trunk...except the groceries looked like they had been stolen from a store - 25-30 hanging sleeves of sliced cheese, string cheese, cheese curds, plus several stacks of tv dinners. All I could think of was that they got lucky; if they'd eaten all that cheese they would have been constipated for a month!

Bad news: At some point during the time Elmer was in the thieves' possession, they either sideswiped something, or someone sideswiped them. The front panel between the wheel well and the driver's door is all busted, the trim strip is gone, the remote-control mirror is there but busted up, and the door hangs up on the broken panel. Plus, there's a nice rub-off of the finish on the front fender & the driver's door.

Don't know if we'll recover our cost of fixing Elmer up, but son has a different car now that PapaLew found for him a couple of weeks ago and spent the weekend helping him fix (brakes and a couple of minor things). I told son before we headed down that if Elmer was driveable he was coming home with me. Elmer is home and tucked into his garage now.

I'm sorry, Reggie - our affair is over. Driving home from KC reminded me just how much I loved driving Elmer...he's built just right for my short little legs!

Soooo, did you get to have some BBQ while you were in KC? Congrats on getting your car back.

So on the hipster wedding front my wife dropped this gem on me. We have to go buy me converse shoes because that is what we are wearing in the wedding.

I nearly blew a gasket.

My Jeep is called Jeep. My major concern is the 5 year old outside my apartment playing games at this time of the night while the parents are smoking weed. I hate apartment life.#StoopCrew

Boxster, Congrats on the smart phone holder thread many good answers. Nice to see a thread where people are constructive for a change. Also check out the bike recommendation thread Forbesascent is some kind of bike distributer and is listing stuff I've never heard of before, fun to look though.

Pants midnite central time sure hope 55 is home safe and sound from her date.

I'll have to check it out. Had some people over for hamburger and beer on the deck and it turned into scotch and spinning 1980's vinyl in the house. Probably going to be "tired" tomorrow.

You've been in honolulu awhile now. What do you think of it? Only place for me where most of my road rage doesn't involve other cars.

It's got it's pluses and minuses just like any other big city. Most of the worst traffic is from The Rail being built. And as long as you're not heading west on H1 going home toward Wainae in the afternoon/evening, the traffic I experience really isn't that much different than what I would hit going home from work in Indianapolis.

I couldn't live on any other island than Oahu though. The other islands literally shut down at 10pm. I don't always go out at night, but I like to have the option available to me when I feel like it.

Really, Honolulu is your regular, run of the mill big city, it just happens to be largely on a beach.

except for the pedestrians..they're a different bunch here. Drives me nuts when I have a green light and some shirtless local casually walks in front my car flashing me a Shaka. Or the herds of Japanese tourists that follow the first idiot jaywalking and you get to sit through your entire green light while 50 of them walk slowly in front of you with their selfie sticks.. Haha I had too much road rage today with the damn lions club convention. Looked like the freaking Epcot center down there. Needed to vent.
