NFL: NFL Offseason Thread

Wow, Deadspin's article about the potential Browns/Titans trade has a classic of an opening line:

"Teams are getting themselves in place for a shot at the definitely available Titans’ second overall pick, and here come the Browns, falling through the glass roof with their cape tangled around their legs."

That's some awesome wordsmithing there, Deadspin.

And this is why the Browns will always be... the Browns.

It doesn't matter who they have at quarterback. They have proven they will **** it up.

They've had (I think) 17 different quarterbacks start in the past 10 seasons. 17!

They've drafted 3 Qbs in the first round over that time. And a 4th rd and a 3rd QB as well.

They've rushed QBs into service too quickly, and they've mishandled any QBs who've had limited success for them.

Just goes to show, sometimes it matters a whole lot more what team you go to than how talented you are.

Also, if the trade does go down, then I feel pretty bad for Marcus Mariota. By all accounts he's a good kid and talented to boot. Maybe he'll be the chosen Browns QB who lives up to the hype, but I doubt it.

He will be raw as an NFL style QB and no doubt the Browns will not give him the time or support he needs to develop into a pro QB.

Poor kid.

That's just it. Mariota is a system QB, with a skillset that could translate well, given the right offensive style. He's not going to be a guy that can step into a pro system day one and light it up.

Also, I don't know that I've ever seen a team give up on a QB picked in the 1st round(especially one that they traded up to get) faster than the Browns have with Manziel. They must feel like there's absolutely no hope for him, even after rehab. That's crazy.

Trading back into the first round to draft him last year was crazy. The Browns just can't help themselves.

IF the Browns were smart, (which I dont think they are), they would not do this trade. Improve the team elsewhere, role with who they have, get a good pick next year (because they are still going to suck) then see how it works. A good QB is awesome, but he needs a line, weapons, and a defense to really help the team.

2014 - Browns trade up in the first round to take a system QB who has bust written all over him

2015 - Browns talking about trading up in the first round to take a system QB who I think has bust written all over him

Cleveland going to Cleveland

The only arm I saw last year that was as weak as Johnny's was Peyton Manning and he has, you know, experience and the uncanny knack of laying those ducks in just the right place.

He just didn't look the same the last few weeks of the season. Not sure if that torn quad (or whatever it was) was really affecting his throwing or if it is just time to hang them up. I hate seeing a HOF player hold on too long.

Fun idea. I'm assuming Wake and Pouncey will be the only two Dolphins on that list.

I'm a little surprised at how long it took for Collins to be nabbed. Wasn't it clear the whole time he was sought for questioning, but not a suspect? Was it just fear of another Hernandez situation?

I think teams were scared off by the fact that Collins could have met with police before the draft and instead opted to wait until the following Monday. With that kind of money on the line for a potential first round pick, why on earth would he wait?
And yeah, I think most if not all teams are a little more risk averse now with the recent headlines - Ray Rice, Aaron Hernandez, Greg hardy, et. al.
