NFL: NFL Offseason Thread

Ok, sounds like SportBlogNYC was incorrect. He was never arrested, just issued a citation. That seems more in line for possession of a small amount of weed.

Does that land him in Stage 1 of the league's substance abuse program or does he actually have to test positive for that?

sounds like it was around an ounce in his possession. That's not very much. Yes, it's still illegal, and yes he should have been a lot smarter, but he was arrested? That's a really small amount to be arrested for.

An ounce is quite a bit of weed actually.

Saw a lack of love for the riders on this thread and had to jump in. Raiders will be much improved in 2015. The team now has its best depth in the last 4+ years and the #4 pick on Thursday. Very excited for the season.

Carr and Mack will be legit.

For one person to have? Yeah, it is. That's probably at least $200 worth.

It's just not, though. It's no coincidence that a lot of pot laws have the degree of severity increase when you get caught with more than an ounce. It's very common to buy by the ounce. Anything an ounce or less, is generally not considered "intent to deliver" like larger amounts are.

Exactly what I was saying. The normal person doesn't go around with a couple hundred dollars worth of weed on them. An ounce is quite a bit of weed.

I guess I don't know what to tell you, other than you're just not correct on this. High school kids might be out there buying dimebags and quarters, but regular smokers are not going to be buying in such small quantities. Now, will an oz last a while? Sure. But, what I'm saying is an oz is definitely within the bounds of personal use. It's the difference between getting a citation and getting arrested in Missouri, where the Ray incident occurred. It's the amount you can possess, legally, in places like Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, etc. There's a reason for that.

Enough discussion about what constitutes a large amount of marijuana. Let's just say it was enough to cost a moron a couple million dollars in future earnings and leave it at that.

Big rumor emerging this morning that the Browns are trying to move up to the second overall pick to take Marcus Mariota.

People are going to laugh at the Browns, but I think it's the right move if they're convinced that Mariota is the answer at QB. Better than flushing another season away with Manziel or McCown.

I think I read somewhere that Dion Jordan is suspended for the year for a diluted drug test. So my guess is he's a super big dip and put water in his.

Should've borrowed a teammates.

It probably is a decent move, but you're right, I will definitely still laugh at them...and Johnny Football.

If it's true, the Titans would be silly not to jump on it. They're not going to win anything this year. They'd still get a high quality player with the Browns pick at 12, this year. And they're almost guaranteed to have two picks in the top 15, next year. Roll with Mettenbeger for a year, and stockpile talent. They almost have to do that, don't they?

Wow, Deadspin's article about the potential Browns/Titans trade has a classic of an opening line:

"Teams are getting themselves in place for a shot at the definitely available Titans’ second overall pick, and here come the Browns, falling through the glass roof with their cape tangled around their legs."

That's some awesome wordsmithing there, Deadspin.

You would think so. The Titans have a lot of holes to fill on the roster and they weren't going to contend this season anyway, so unless they absolutely love Mariota then there's no reason not to move back and just take the best players available. The problem is that it's unclear who's in charge in Tennessee and what exactly the rebuilding plan is. It's been an extremely unstable franchise since Bud Adams passed away.

Well, if indeed 2 number ones are on the table, they'd be crazy not to take it. There are certainly some good players in this draft, but none of them have that "once in a generation" type feel to them that we've seen in some other years, (Luck, Suh, Calvin Johnson, etc) There's way more value in the two picks.
