I'll be traveling to Cancun for a week on Wednesday and would appreciate any insight and/or suggestions.

TIA!!

When I was there, I met a guy that use to live in Omaha working at a packing plant but was sent back as he wasn't a citizen (or something along those lines) He worked on the resort as a burger cook. He told me to be cautious about people trying to get you to go to the bars at night as sometimes it's a setup. He also said to stay off the beach late at night unless its a private resort beach. I have 2 friends that were robbed at knife point on the beach after the bars. The restraunts like hardrock ect are nothing like the ones here and smell like toilets and don't be surprised watching truck loads of masked men with machine guns driving up and down the streets. They are the cops.

With that being said I never encountered anything shifty while being there.

The drugs there, especially the cocaine is roughly twice as potent there compared to central Iowa. By the time it gets up here it's been absolutely stomped on. Be sure to reduce your intake to avoid a potential overdose.

La Casa del Habanos is the only official Cuban cigar store in Cancun. Its on the main drag towards the southern end. The only place that has real Cubans in the city. Except of course for the beach vendors that have them 5 for 10 bucks!ha

dónde está la embajada americana

One of my days in Cancun is still referred to as the day I died. The bartender was el diablo.

I'm in Cancun right now. Where are you staying?

The water is fine. No issues at all. The food is excellent. I'm staying at the Hyatt.

Haven't seen any military.

Sunscreen is key.

From looking at your picture, please be careful in Cancun.. their gravity appears to be a bit "different".
