Our guys wouldn't shake hands?

The handshake line is a rather poor way to make judgments about sportsmanship. It is a nice thing for little league kids to do, but seems rather silly to insist that near-professionals do it. Pros don't.

There are lots of acceptable reasons to leave the stadium without going through a handshake line, such as dealing with your own emotions and frustration. For some of these guys, the tournament was why they came to Ames. It was their opportunity to be seen and advance their pro careers. I can't imagine how tough it must have been for them to see their careers take such a tough hit.

And for some sportswriter who doesn't even pay attention to be making judgments about our program is ridiculous. I'd love to see him ask Hoiberg in person about what is wrong in our locker room.

Must of missed the part where Bill Plaschke became the LA Times Iowa State Basketball beat writer....

Iowa State slamming things on bench, McKay actually walked off toward tunnel...this team has issues, showed the whole game...

kill him over this if you want but it's completely true. McKay had to be called back from the tunnel after or last made basket and then picked up a chair over his head. Hogue hit a chair so hard it popped up off the ground during all of this as well.

I think this plays into my theory that these guys were crushing themselves under the weight of their own expectations. They were trying so hard in the game to be the team they thought they deserved to be, that they lost sight of the fundamentals that made them that way in the first place.

On the note of ISU being a "classless program", I saw Hoiberg and Niang have long conversations with Hasse congratulating him, as well as Morris calm as a cucumber in the handshake line. If I were player in that situation I'd probably just jet off to the locker room rather than sit out on the court watching the opposing team rush the court in celebration.

Whatever, our guys are nothing but respectful to the opponents during and after the game. **** happens in the heat of the moment.

Next year's slogan needs to be "LETS GET MAD AGAIN!"

Plaschke can suck a ****, he'll probably go talk about it on Around the Horn tomorrow now and say how sportsmanship is deteriorating.

Does this mean we are not going to win the sportsmanship trophy they give out after the last game of the tourny?

I'm going to have to disagree with your last statement.

Plaschke is an ***-hat, shows up for one of our games and suddenly thinks he knows everything about our players. It was a tough situation, and his tweet made it sound 10x worse than it was. Put any team in that situation, and some players will react the same way.

So the team has issues? Or a couple guys were very frustrated and upset with the outcome of the game? Huge difference there.

Georges, Monte, Matt definitely went through the line but couldn't see anyone else one way or the other.
Edozie, nader, long, Jackson and mckay came late. Hogue left, bdJ, Georgios I don't think stuck around and waited but the vast majority of the team did. Watch the replay. Totally normal ending. And most of out guys were totally classy about it.

Two guys decide to soak their hair in cat ****, would you wanna hang around them for more than 1 game if you were their teammate? I don't think so.

Season Over.

Us as fans can celebrate a successful season and Big 12 Tourney Championship, but ultimately this team looked like they could give 2 ***** about this game, so win or lose why should I?

At least we have football season to look forward to....errrrr.....

They looked nothing like that. You are reaching for an explanation. I rewatched the game. This was a case of things not working out. It was actually very similar to the South Carolina and Maryland games where they hammered us got us in a funk and we got flustered. Because we thought in all of these cases we were playing an inferior opponent and shouldn't be struggling (turned out Maryland was pretty good too). This was a case of being out of rythm and not being able to regain it. He had a very good game plan for us and they were calling fouls like a Big 10 game which also hurt.

Plaschke is one of several reasons that I can't watch Around The Horn. I had ISU making the Elite 8 in all of my brackets. I had them beating Iowa in the Sweet 16 in all of those brackets as well. I'm an Iowa fan and I still thought this ISU team would make a deep run. That's a rough way to go out no way around it, but I think ISU's team will make a deep run next season. You return almost everyone that matters and add a couple nice pieces as well. You guys had a great season. This is not the ending anyone wants, but hold your heads high and look forward to what should be an even better season next season.
Classy post.

So we had no passion, didn't want this game.......or we wanted it too much and got mad. So what..love the way the reactionaries can't make up their mind. That moment with.04 was bad and the refs went to the scorers table. Really a couple players showed emotion. Get over it. It wasn't his description of events that is bs it's the opinion he asigned to the cause of it. Big market tabloid journalism at its finest.

I was at the game. Bryce and McKay didn't and I think hogue too. The odd one was the Greek he jumped up and sprinted for the locker room as soon as the buzzer sounded. I honestly probably wouldve done the same thing in the heat of the moment like that.

Well said.

Saw Niang and others shaking hands, hugs and talking to the UAB guys and coaches. Many UAB guys still celebrating when our guys left, how long are you suppose to wait for the winning team to line up and shake hands?
Honest question, cause I don't know

Yes. You wait and shake their hands. Same BS that FL State pulled when OR took them to the wood shed. To be honest it is shocking to me that this question is even being asked. I did not see what happened (was in the airport) but if true, I cannot believe Fred would stand for that. Not something he would have EVER done as a player.
