Kassoum Yakwe

So if Yakwe chooses to reclassify does that mean we can't technically recruit him but he can still choose us if we've already recruited him enough before he reclassifies?

Side note, if he really thought he was going to reclassify and ISU would be "out" - why would he still come here for an official visit?

Either Fred has a plan for him or he is going the prep route if Diallo chooses the clones.

He still came here for a visit because he says he's still 50-50 on what he's going to do. My guess, he is very interested in us, but also playing with friend Diallo, and now that has a deterrant depending on where Diallo choses to go. Interesting.

Do you honestly believe that Mayor doesn't have a plan for this guy?

A plan for which guy? Kassoum? Never said he didn't. I was just pointing out that I think Diallo was THEE target, and that was our focus at the time. Along comes Kassoum later, and we had no foresight that this would happen (him being another wanted target of ours and now his reclassifying and not being able to join us in 2015, that is).

I like that he would reclassify to 2015. He WANTS to redshirt, i mean who wants that. He is wanting to redshirt so he can get better and go up against Top-tier D1 talent every day. e wouldnt have to worry about him taking spots either. I dont know why we wouldnt want every big named big guy we can. Seems like a very good fit to me. And dare I say, if we get DIallo, Yakwe would be in his ear saying to come back for another year (wishful thinking)

i read it he cannot redshirt here. ISU's only option is he goes to Prep school.

If he wants to redshirt he might as well just go to prep school to play. Especially if he fell in love while at Iowa State. It already was his guardians favorite and I'm sure he likes it even more now. Him loving it also helps with the recruitment of Diallo even if they don't come together.

That's correct. Hines was saying the redshirt wish is good because he's not itching to get on the court for a D1 team asap. So there are skill high odds of him going to prepared school

I've seen this mentioned a few times but is there some verification of this?

he is only 17, will turn 18 in the fall. I have seen him play 3-4 times on TV, he could use ALOT of skill development yet before he's ready to contribute at D1 college. Would love to see him at Brewster or comparable NEPSAC school

Can he walk-on the first year, then get a scholly starting the 2nd year? Or would that still be prohibited by the NCAA? Unlikely, I know. But stranger things have happened.

Interesting question. I am guessing that he would be allowed to walk on and pay his own way, much as McKay and Burton have done. If a scholarship is not involved, the NCAA can't keep a player from going to any school he wishes, though I don't know about the walk on status. Also, does a year of playing as a walk on affect a player's 4 year eligibility?

You can red shirt a walk on.
