Officials

Blaming the officials is no more valid than blaming this player or that player. This loss was such a total fail you can only blame the coach.

Exactly zero people in this thread have done this.

Ah...more piling on Thomas, huh? Are you one of the fans who was harassing him last season on Twitter too?

Never harass him....I like the kid. I want to have Doc Sadler's ghost tell Hoiberg something like "maybe he can play more minutes next year" or something. He is obvioulsy pushing, he is obviously a player with potential.....but we all see non-production when we need production. The great thing is he has two more years to get great. Good to Great...all that psycho babble. I only harass Einstiens who try to defend NFL defensive backs who catch interceptions with 6 minutes left and a wide open field to run and go into the fetal position.

This is all coaching

Agree. I'm not calling for Fred's head, wouldn't even consider that, so don't think that when this is posted. We all talk about learning experiences for teams, well this is one for the staff. This is 100% on the coaching staff tonight, like it or not. This team not being ready for Tech tonight is 100% on the staff. These are games, if we want to be taken seriously, cannot ever be lost. Wouldn't have mattered who we had out there tonight, this team did not come to play and that is the coaches job to see that and nip it in the bud before it becomes the problem it was tonight.

Yep. Even had an extra day with the Kst game on a Tues. I'll say it again, elite teams don't lose this game.

Yup, even average teams dont lose to the cellar dweller. We need to secure good, elite/top 20 is a fantasy

Seems like we had a pretty good team that got drilled at Texas Tech a couple of years ago, and a good team last year got drilled at West Virginia. It happens, and if T-Tech shoots that well again, they will win a few more games. At least we came back and made a game of it. If we win the conference, great, but what really matters is how we're playing in February and March. It's still December for McKay and Fred may still not yet have his starting lineup and rotation worked out. We may lose 6 conference games and still be a Final 4 threat come March.

Not a reason why we lost by any means. Actually looked like an all star crew following the WVU TCU game (might have been worst officiated game I've seen in years) looking at you Paul janseen.

That being said, two calls that stood out.

Niang foul on FT line.
Time in 2nd half where it was our ball before a timeout. We had our offense all set up and then they just gave the ball to tech. Did I miss something there?

I assume the one on Niang was the 15 footer near the end of the game when he got hit on the forearm and the ball fell about a foot short of the basket and no call was made. That was hard to miss and a huge no call. Two others I remember were their big 4 point play when I think it was BDJ who jumped at their shooter and his hand may have flicked the shooter's hand after the shot, which was made. Then late in the game we put up a 3 and our player got hit on the hand, the ball falls several feet short of the basket, and no call. Also not blaming the refs for the loss, but I thought they did a poor job and missed some obvious calls that went against us.

Fair enough, and I know I came down hard on you.

The reason I responded so strongly to your original post is that I'm really tired of posters bagging on Matt and also BDJ having sub-par games yesterday while giving Naz a free pass. Naz, IMO, was the worst player for us yesterday and it's not even close looking at the box score stats, yet a vocal minority of fans on here act like he can do wrong and is above the criticism other players get, even though those other players had better games. Hell, there is one poster in a different thread who made that argument that Naz is off-limits because he can be trusted (whatever the hell that means), and BDJ can't. I don't know...I guess having big shots against Okie State last season means you're untouchable or something.

And I know what I just wrote has been mentioned in other threads since the end of the game, but I thought it's worth mentioning again in this thread based on the context.

That was a mother****ing four point throw in freestyle wrestling. They called a jump ball. WTF? And THEN, they gave the ball to Tech, even though it was our possession? I was so confused. I honestly just want to know what they decided there.

Were the announcers wrong about the arrow favoring Iowa state. I also have no idea how tech got the ball

I thought we were fortunate to get any call with McKay at the end. Play any D in the first half, and we don't come close to praying for a flagrant to save our a....

They wanted to be picky. If we had driven more consistently, we'd be pretty giddy about the officials' performance. They were quite willing to send us to the line all day long.

Not quite as willing as they were to send Tech to the line as they shot 11 more free throws, even though they did most of their damage outside. But I agree, we should have gone inside more as we were clanking so many 3's and Tech was draining most of theirs, outscoring us by 15 outside the arc. Watching hundreds of Big 8 and Big 12 games over the years, I'm used to seeing the higher conference teams get the majority of close calls against the bottom dwellers, like in the WVU-TCU game yesterday. Just didn't think our game was reffed that way at all yesterday, even though it was first against last. Imo most of the close calls and some of the not so close calls went against us. Still doesn't excuse us letting them get out to that great start that had us fighting uphill the rest of the game.

The best Cyclone team in history lost to Drake. Kansas lost to TCU two years ago and still won the conference. It happens.
This is the same team that won against KU, KSU, @ WVU and was one point away from winning @ Baylor. Come on now. One win doesn't define the team and neither does one loss.

After reading your first sentence...you need not type the rest.
