MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

Baez absolutely smoked that ball out past the left field bleachers. Reminds me of when Glenallen Hill used to do things like this.

In today's baseball environment he would have been thrown at on his nice at bat for watching his HR, which I think is stupid.

I was worried about the cubs getting a pitcher rotation in order for when these young players start to enter the majors, but with all the talent the cubs have in the minors trading for some quality pitchers and paying for an ace shouldn't be an issue.

Also, the Cubs current staff has some potential. Arrieta has been incredible and Hendricks has performed very well thus far. It's early in their careers, so who knows, but there is some potential on the staff they currently have.

I agree but I think it will be nice to have the money or trades to bring in an established ace.

Thought about this and then thought better of it. Its really a win-win situation and when you think of it, they have already solidified an excellent pick. The Cubs haven't exactly drafted what others considered to be the best player on the board as of late anyway. At this point root for them to be the spoiler because they are doing it with some guys that for once will be there in the future.

Yeah, they've been skipping over the top HS pitchers lately since so many of them get hurt before they ever get to the majors. They'll likely get someone they want even if they pick a little lower.

I agree, and I think that's why they'll make a run at one of Lester, Price, Scherzer, etc. I think they are one guy away from have a pretty decent rotation. Lester/Price/Scherzer, Arrieta, Hendricks, Wood, and then a back end guy like Wada, or maybe move Neil Rameriez to a starting spot, or hope Dubront or Turner works out. That's not a bad rotation.

except he didn't watch it and admiring your hr for too long would have gotten you thrown at in most any era of baseball

The nice thing is the Cubs can spend a lot of money on pitching contracts the next 3-4 years, and not worry too much because they're top prospects still won't be free agents. For example, our 2016 rotation could potentially be:

1. David Price
2. Jon Lester (a 5-6 year front loaded contract would be nice to save money in the end for the prospects)
3. Jake Arrieta
4. CJ Edwards, Jacob Turner
5. Kyle Hendricks

And our lineup would have the most powerful bats in the majors. As I've said before, our 2016 roster's second LEAST powerful starting position player could be Castro, who can hit 15 HR's a year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting 7 starters to hit over 15 HR's. But Rizzo, Schwarber, Baez, and Bryant all can hit 30+. Soler has the ability to hit 20. Castro, Alcantara, Castillo, Russell can all hit 15+.

That's just something you rarely see in history. So much power. Much nice.

Price isn't a free agent until next year. I agree that they go after Lester first then Scherzer or Madea from Japan. I think Arrieta and Hendricks will be in the rotation for sure next year, probably Wood and then one out of Dubront, Turner or Straily to start the year. Wada has been good so far this year, but at his age it's hard to see him being a part of the Cubs plans going forward.

Also, didn't see it on here. Chris Archer, former Cub prospect gone Ray, says most top 10 pitching free agents he's talked to want to be Cubs. He also said David Price wants to be a Cub.

I've heard that the reason the Tigers went after Price was because they knew they wouldn't sign an extension with Scherzer. So hopefully Price won't sign an extension with them.

I would've thought it was stupid to go after Price during the deadline, but the Rays only gave him up for a Dan Vogelbach, who will never be an NL player, and a Pierce Johnson (possible #3 starter) so it's too bad we didn't just try and one up the Tigers.
