OOOH! That's on my Netflix Watch List. I love war documentaries.

I've seen bits of the War, but I think DH needs to sit down and watch it with me. He loves WWII history. I love Civil War history so this is like my favorite series.

Have you never watched it? Shelby Foote is awesome.

More trivia: (and how the series opens) One of the first battles of the Civil War (1st Bull Run) takes place right outside Wilmer' McClean's home. He doesn't want to be near the war, so he moves to a little town called Clover Hill. This town shortly changed its name to Appomattox. His home is where Lee surrendered to Grant. So the war began in his backyard and ended in his front parlor.

That is just crazy to me.

I recall country music being discussed recently...I was in a store this morning and they had a country station on. Now, I don't even mind country, it reminds me of days riding in the tractor with dad when I was a kid, but jeebus rice..."Girl in a Country Song" (apparently by some...Maddie & Tae) is without question the worst thing I have ever listened to.

it's supposed to be a parody of sorts. I think it's pretty funny.

The fact that it's supposed to be a parody may be the only explanation for the fact that it was pathetically preachy and over-the-top on the southern-girl drawl. I heard the first verse and then chorus, but tried to block it out after that.

Yeah, they're totally overdoing the drawl on purpose. It's making fun of the 109848 songs out there right now that all repeat the same line of "baby (or girl, certainly not a name) git on up in mah truck, let's have a beer and drive down some old dirt road" It's funny to me because they lift lines right out of some of the songs they're poking fun at. The video is pretty good because they put guys in cut offs and bikinis and have them act all sexy.

Here are their lyrics:

and here are about two dozen of the songs they are joking about:

I've been watching Ken Burns' Civil War while I cross stitch. We're getting to the end though. Thinking Sherman is burning up Georgia tonight.

McClellan just unsuccessfully ran for President against Lincoln. One of McClellan's former soldiers (whose diary they feature) said "the best thing the army of the Potomac (that McClellan led, er, sat around and let molder, two different times) did was to vote for Lincoln."

Hey, hey hey, spoiler alert.

Just don't tell me who won ok

I no have the Netflix.

Is Netflix not allowing cows to subscribe? That's discrimination!

Netflix has the following Ken Burns documentaries:
The Civil War
Baseball
The War
The West
The National Parks
Jazz
Prohibition
The Dust Bowl

If you have some time, do the free Netflix trial and marathon the hell out of these.

I love history!

ha, like hippity said......some probably think they're going to get another chance.

Hippity, I've seen most of the National Parks one on PBS, it's pretty good. If you go to his wiki page, it's got a list of upcoming projects. One is about Yosemite, and there's one for Country Music (I would assume like Carter Family and Cash era) that look interesting.
