Would a "news only" thread be useful?

  • I like the idea, and I think it could work if the Mods and Admins are supportive.

  • I like the idea, but I don't see how it would ever work on CycloneFanatic.

    Votes: 33 22.3%
  • I don't like the idea. It won't work, and it doesn't do anything to enhance CycloneFanatic.

    Votes: 64 43.2%
  • I don't really care either way. It doesn't affect me.

That's your opinion. Not everyone agrees with your opinion. Shocker.
I can admit that not everyone agrees with my opinions. Can you?

I definitely can admit that not everyone agrees with my opinion...its an opinion, they are meant to be disagreed with by a certain percentage of people. For example, 65% of those who have voted think your idea is a bad one.

I'm able to admit when I have a bad idea, can you?

Yes, we need more favorite breed threads.

Those are at least meant o make you laugh and have fun with. Id rather have those then an all news, no discussion thread any day.

Most significant news gets its own thread anyway and 95% of them have a link in the first few posts if the OP knows what they are doing. How hard is it to scan "new threads." Isn't the point of a message board the conversation? I admit there is a lot of net geek filler (Chris is on vacation, let me mayor coach, etc) but I have never found it very hard to sift through. Cyclone athletics, AD, football, and Mayor twitter covers pretty much the exact thing you are looking for. In other words , your idea already exists, you are just choosing the wrong media.

You didn't intentionally use more positive options than negative ones. Nosiree.

And there are 62 negative responses to the actual 19 positive ones.
You are contradicting yourself. First you are counting 2nd poll choice as a positive option. Then you turn around and count it towards your negative responses. Which one is it?
The way I look at it, there are currently 51 people who chose one of the two "I like the idea" options, compared to 46 for the "I don't like the idea" option. You can rip on the poll design all day long, but that doesn't look like a consensus dumb idea to me.

Well that's some great logic. I guess we shouldn't worry about child abuse because we aren't children; they'll handle it.
This is such a poor analogy, and you know it. The mods are grown adults, perfectly capable of handling it themselves if they have a problem with it. My point is...lay off the "too much work for the mods" excuse, because they can decide that for themselves.
Someone remind me...why am I arguing with this guy again?

I admit that I would like to see a "sticky" thread at the top of each forum that provides only news (and links to news) posted by CW, Mods, and their deputies (perhaps a few for each sport). CW's articles provide lots of news, but there is plenty of other good stuff that gets buried in long threads or disappears in short threads. Putting the burden on a few deputies may be the answer because we don't want to burden our Mods.

Any good marketer will tell you that poll questions are designed to get the most favorable responses for their client. I think you would have achieved an entirely different result if your poll had consisted of a brief description of your idea and two simple response choices:

1) Yes, it's a good idea. Do it.
2) No, it's a bad idea. Forget it.

The option "I don't care" is superfluous. If they do not care, they can simply not vote. If they care strongly one way or the other, the opinions are clear. If you have more yes than no, THEN you start figuring out how to implement the idea.

I'm saying that you designed the poll in such a way to manipulate the data. You tried to state earlier in the thread that you didn't intend to design the poll in that way after I brought up the idea that one could intentionally use the options to skew data toward a more positive spin, yet that's exactly what you did this afternoon.

Saying something will never work on CF (what option 2 states) is a negative answer to the idea, but gives the respondent the option of giving you a pat on the back of saying it's a good thought.

Either way, you intentionally created the options to make it appear like it has more support than it actually does.

Looks like we might need to add a poll design czar to this website. Maybe I need to create another poll to ask people if they like my idea for a poll design czar. Would you two like to review my poll before I post it?

Sorry...couldn't resist. There is way too much passion flying around in this thread, for something that shouldn't be such a big deal. I'm guilty as much as anyone else.

The snark wasn't necessary.

You were arguing your poll was accurate and favorable. I merely suggested that a differently worded poll would have likely provided different results. I've been non-committal on your topic since the first thread. I didn't vote because none of the options provided by you accurately reflected my opinion.

Are you volunteering?

Sorry about that. It's no way to treat a lady. My wife would be ashamed by my comments.

I admitted awhile back that my poll was far from scientific. I probably created this poll for my own information more than anything else, so I could decide if I want to keep pursuing it or not. Some may draw a different conclusion, but my personal conclusion is there is enough interest in the idea that I will keep pursuing it. (insert a falling-off-of-chair GIF in the next post)

My comment was not antagonistic. Regardless of my gender, it didn't deserve a snark response.

And I wish you luck. I am neither in favor of nor against your idea. I do think you are fighting an uphill battle, though.

What's funny is we all think you're the brick wall.

i don't have red hair and I'm not a woman.

I loled at the part where kcc complains about snark. Good stuff.

...it didn't deserve a snark response.
You're right, it didn't. On the other hand there's a whole lot of snark being thrown my way, and I don't see anyone else being reprimanded. Just sayin'. (insert picture of world's smallest violin in next post)

Didn't 2 different mods already tell you in yesterday's thread it was too much work? Sounds like the decision was already made.
