True Detective on HBO

No kidding! I have been enjoying this show to this point but man did they crank up the intensity last night. Gonna be a hell of 3 episode conclusion!

Now I have to READ something? Wife and I are going back to Brooklyn 99 to save time on hidden back stories....

Cool back story on yellow king and wife and i love the show. Current favorites are Grimm, TD, and for me Almost Human. Then of course anything cinemax around the 10pm hour.

With the final episode of the season about 48-54 hours away, I began thinking about Season 2.

We are going to have a new setting, new characters, and a new story.

I hope we get minority main character next season. Doesn't have to be both. (I love Woody and MM, they were excellent, but I think it would be good for the show to diversify the main character lineup)

In terms of who I would like to see star, maybe a pairing of Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor? That would be pretty good.

Setting: Somewhere in the Rust Belt.

What do you all think? It's going to be like Game of Thrones where we will probably have to wait a year, but its never too early to make predictions!

Some are projecting a female duo leading the cast as well which would be interesting. I will be closely checking in throughout the year to find out!

Also interesting to me is what the over riding theme of the show become, does it continue to be the "go to whatever means necessary to find justice with or without the law" theme or does it steer in a different direction with new characters and settings.

McConaughey is spellbinding on this show.

He's already won Best Actor at the Golden Globes for Dallas Buyers Club this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he won an Oscar as well. Then you factor in he's going to be a strong contender for an Emmy Best Actor for this show. To win all three in one year...that would be a feat that would probably never be accomplished again

I agree. Honestly, I avoided his movies after Dazed and Confused. Thought he was a terrible actor and off screen, he seemed always drunk or stoned and shirtless all the time. Haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club, but he is really, really good in this show. Steals every scene and the shots in the interview room are crazy good. Unreal.

Underwhelming finale. Too many unanswered questions about the reach of carcosa and all the connections to the king in yellow

Agreed, and what was with that purple vortex that he sees before getting attacked? Like that's what people see right before they're supposed to die. Good show in general and great acting, but building up some big conspiracy and then just ending it on capturing one guy is pretty weak.

Finale was definitely a little disappointing but I love the premise of this show, if they keep it going. It is basically an 8 hour movie.
I also agree there was nothing about the Yellow King to help clarify or solve that part of the story. Are we supposed to assume the Yellow King is the father?

I wonder if next season will be completely separate or if they will tie each season together.

I was disappointed in the loose ends they left in the Carcosa storyline, and never really explained it. They were true to the premise though, which is a story about Detectives and police work. This isn't Constantine afterall. The short format probably had a lot to do with not developing the villain a bit more.

IMO the best Television I have maybe ever seen. Blows Soprano's out of the water. Can't wait to see what is next, and hopefully Harrelson and McConaghey are in it.

And now for the crappy part about off-network shows, waiting a year between seasons.

speculated that Season 2 will being in Jan 2015.

After 7 incredible episodes, last night was a huge let down. I'm curious if the next season will be a continuation of the current story or a whole new story. Not sure I'll watch the next season, will depend on who is in it.

Certainly wasn't a let down for me. Were we suppose to know everything? No. They finished the story in Rust and Marty's perspective.

Rust: "We didn't get em all"

Marty: "Yeah, and we aint goin to get em. That aint what kind of world it is, but we got ours"

Just finished the series. Wow. Very powerful show. I liked the ending as well. They were never going to get everyone responsible. It was too big. The whole idea of the oldest story, the ongoing battle between light and dark, Rust and Marty were just a small part of it.

Totally gripping 1st season, especially the first five episodes.

It is a bit of a strain on my brain to try to listen to all of these southern accents.

Nobody can touch HBO when it comes to making TV shows. They're head and shoulders above the rest and True Detective is a testament to that fact. I'm really curious to see what next year will bring/who they'll cast, etc.
