IOWA vs IOWA STATE

Yes, Marble can get into foul trouble, but so can Kane. If Kane gets into foul trouble trying to guard Marble than who is going to guard Marble? He is 6'6. You can't put Morris on him, Thomas is not quick enough. We need Hogue and Ejim to help down low. I guess it will be Naz Long, even though he gives up 3 inches and maybe some quickness. Also, who guards White? Last year Ejim tried to but he got his @SS handed to him and ended up in foul trouble.

Naz Long can guard Marble. Kane is to big and physical to be guarded by a smaller player. He will back him down and score in the post. He's done it all year. The matchup problem is when he is at PG.

Kane-Marble
Thomas- Gessell
Hogue- White
Ejim- Basabe
Niang-Woodbury

While Marble is a very good player, he is not a matchup problem. Kane, SDW, Long, even Ejim could guard him. Not sure Thomas could. But Iowa is such a tall team that their off ball guards are too big to matchup up. And their PGs are small (or at least they are compared to Kane).

That's the matchup issue for Iowa.

Guarding White in the half court is not the issue. Stopping White in transition is the key, which is a team defense issue more than a single player. White is extremely limited in the half court, and his go to move is to get fouled. ISU needs to avoid that and play good D.

Niang and Ejim are guys that ISU can not afford to get in fould trouble, but they can hide one of those two players or bench them for a period of time, whereas if Kane is on the floor nobody can guard him but Marble. And Kane isn't essential to defend anyone on Iowa's team as Iowa's mismatches come down low. If he gets in foul trouble, you can bench him and put Long on Marble. Marble doesn't score from the post. He is an isolation type scorer. The key to defending a player like that is quick feet and sound technique. Kane will bully smaller players around.

These are the same matchups I'm assuming. I'm not too concerned about Kane getting in foul trouble; it hasn't happened yet. As always, its Niang I'm most concerned getting in foul trouble. If he has to sit we'll probably need to get Edozie some minutes and just make sure Kane is in the game if Niang has to sit so we don't lose too much offense.

Hogue will handle White just fine.

I hope to see a lot of zone or box and 1 out of ISU Friday, force them outside. For that reason I hope Edozie sees time. Fred can't let them do what they usually do and hurl bodies at the rim hoping to get a foul.

I know how tough Hilton is, especially when the Clones are good. But to say Iowa has no chance of winning by 15 in a rivalry game is just overconfidence. That's like saying UNC could never win at Cameron Indoor by more than 15, but they have. I'm not saying that it's going to happen, just that it could.

You said 30% chance it happens; as in if the game were played 10 times, 3 of those would result in Iowa winning by 15+. As HFCS stated, if you are trolling congrats.

The only way someone is going to beat ISU by 15+ in Hilton is if the wheels just completely fall off in the last couple minutes and a 6 point game gets inflated to 15. Any Iowa fan that thinking or hoping they will will comfortably is high on crack. It simply won't happen.

just think how bad Iowa state played year and Iowa still couldn't win by double digits in a game where they played well and were at home.

100% agree on Hogue's D (I really liked Clyburn's overall game but his defense left something to be desired) and Edozie will matchup with Woodbury if Niang is in foul difficulty. Though I am guessing Iowa will go small a majority of the game with McCabe subbing for Woody. They have been playing small quite a bit, and they will need to matchup with ISU's line-up. In that scenario, Naz will be on Marble Jr. Kane, on White and Hogue would move to McCabe.

If Gessell guards Kane the entire game, we might have a new Hilton scoring record.

The home team usually wins this game it seems and we have a fairly large talent advantage. I can't see us losing this game more than 1 out of 10 times.

Iowa will have no answer for Ejim and Kane. Hogue will push us over the top for a comfortable win of around 14 points.

TGFCFH.

More important at this time of the week, is what will fans to do combat the insufferable fan base that wins the game Friday?

I will bet that if ISU wins, Hok fan will immediately switch the subject to football, bowl games, and ISU FB record. If Iowa wins, Clone fans comeback will be about last year, the NIT, and Baylor.

Me personally I'll congratulate ISU, and root for them to win the Big12, F Kansas, and K Okie St.!

I'll probably go the "told you so" route when ISU wins...no need to go any farther than that in a game you expect to win. If ISU does lose I would assume most of the damage done would be to my liver

This seems accurate.

Keep in mind they also have talented players in McCabe, Olaseni, Oglesby, Jok, and Uthoff coming off the bench.

I just lol at the hoks for thinking the should be top 20 right now. For what? These are the teams they beat all at home or on a neutral court. They also barely got by Xavier and Notre Dame on a neutral court

Abilene Christian (3-8, Southland)?

Fair Dickson (3-9, NEC)?
Maryland Eastern (2-4,MEAC)?
UTEP(5-4, C-USA)?
UNO (6-3, summit league)?
Penn (2-6, Ivy league)?
Or Drake?

I guess if they were a division 2 team I could give them a top 20. I just don't think they need to be ranked any higher. When their conference comes around and when they play Wisconsin, OSU, MSU, MU on the road then we can talk. Overall I think they screwed themselves over with that pathetic non con schedule

I fully expect to lose this one, so not much is gonna get to me. Both teams are gonna have good seasons, and it is nice that this game is between two good teams again. It is BB, so losing one game ain't gonna be make or break for either team.

Iowa tried to make their non conference schedule better this year but have had some bad luck with it. Battle of Atlantis was supposed to be their chance to get some big name matchups but then they got by Xavier who then went 0-3 down there, didn't get a chance to play Tennessee and then didn't get the big name loss to Kansas. Combine that with Notre Dame not being very good when they were preseason ranked it hasn't given them many opportunities. They really need to do a home/home with a big name school next year but so far they've done what was expected to this point but I still think the jury is still out to see how good they are. Probably won't get a real feel for them as a team until conference play.

Nice attitude and positivity! Way to believe in our Cyclones! You are such a positive fan! I wish everyone was as optimistic about the Cyclones as you! When I grow up, I want to be as big of a Cyclone fanatic as deanvogs!

Stop being such a downer and believe in our team. This is the best team we've had since probably 2001. At least some of us think we can win this one. Every single game there are a few people on here with such lousy attitudes. There were probably even a few people that thought TAMUCC would beat us. You're here to cheer for the Cyclones, not put them down. There's no need for that crap.

Let's go ISU! Unlike deanvogs, I believe in you guys.

Uhmmm, Iowa fan.

Way to early to proclaim that this is the best team since 2001. Hope they are, but we don't know yet.

Iowa's SOS is only one place behind ours (104th and 105th) after Friday they will be ahead of us.

ISU will end up with a better SOS since they haven't played their tourney but yeah, I posted above what I thought about Iowa's non conf schedule
