Whoever made the call to sit on it last series made a huge fail. They are playing not to lose.

Obviously a special teams fail, but we basically handed them the ball and dared them to score with a minute and a half left. That is not how you win football games. We have no reason to play not to lose, we have nothing to lose, so why would we play that way. Messingham just doesn't get it.
Not blaming Mess, but whomever makes the decision to not try when you get the ball at the OU 41 with a 7-point lead and 3 minutes to go. No reason at all to not give it a shot and see if you can't bury them, but we do the conservative thing and sit on it. I just don't get that at all
Suppose you're a 1-8 team, up by seven late in the first half vs. a team you rarely beat, and postseason is out of the question. Which of the following is worse:
1. Go for it on 4th & 6 near midfield, fail to convert, and give opponent good field position.
2. Punt, and have it returned for a touchdown.
