White Helmets

White helmets are not going to sway any recruits in our direction. Any recruit that is using "cool uniforms" in their school selection criteria wont even have Iowa State on their list.

Bottom line for me: White helmets with the recent white-white jersey-pants for road games — I think I can dig it.

Any other combo w/ white helmets: Please no.

And if ISU did do all-white as a road-game alternate, then return the "base" look to cardinal-white-cardinal. With the current design, those unis kill.

If that is their main criteria for choosing a school, then it probably doesn't matter who is on thier short list, becaus I would imagine there aren't a ton of schools looking at them. I just can't see this happening, "Hmm, let me see, I have this full ride offer to play for Alabama, they have assured me I'm a big part of their future plans, but, Nebraska did have those flashy alternate uniforms last year, I think I'll go there instead." Honestly, if that is a swaying decision, then I don't think football is top priority to that kid.

I've said all along, you want to attract better recruits, win consistently, that's it. Alabama could have the ugliest *** uniforms on the planet and we could have the flashiest, most chromed out diamond plate, shiny uniforms available, guess who's going to win that recruiting battle?

You can keep beating this drum, but if you think Oregon's uniforms had nothing to do with their rise to prominence, you have not been paying attention. No one says it means everything when recruiting, but can always help. Heck, even if it just helps enough to be a tie breaker between 2 schools, its good enough. People are such fun haters about these uniforms.

Its obviously not the only reason but it does 100% play a part in Oregons rise.

WHy would we have white helmets. We need to stick to our identity. Our tradition. Kids these days want consistancy, they dont want flash or "the next big thing". They watch teams like oregon in the national championship game with disgust on their faces. Saying "look at those idiots, 240 uniform combos....what the h. No way would I go there, thats why Oregon is a bottom feeder".

Does Notre Dame have alt unis? Does Wisconsion? Does Nebraska? No they dont. They have tradition. The are building their brand on one uniform concept. Thats what we need to do. White helmets? More like leather helmets. Thats where its at. Tradition.

All three of those teams have Alt unis.

Notre Dame has green ones that they wear almost every years, plus they wore an alt vs Navy last year.

Wis and Neb wore alt in a game against each other last year.

The only team that hasn't had a real alt is Alabama, when they got their nike pro combat they changed very few details and it was hard to see if the uni actually changed.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.

I was paying attention, back, 20 years ago when it mattered and they were the only ones doing it. Because it got them on TV, when TV wasn't an everyday thing for teams that were not classic powers. The world has changed now, everyone is on TV. We'll never know for sure, but I still don't think it had as much to do with their wacky uniforms swaying recruits as the fact that it got their picture on TV. The media and access to information has changed a lot since Oregon started their uniform experiment. It obviously did help them, no doubt, but I don't believe now, just because you come up with whacky alternate uniforms, that the recruits are going to start flocking to your door. Look how many teams do it now, it's more Ho-Hum than it really is some kind of giant recruiting advantage.

The alternate uniforms are for the fans mostly. Oregon was NIke, Nike was Oregon back then, do you really think the main suggestion in the board room when the decision was made to go whacky with the uniforms was, "This will help us get recruits." or "Gee, I bet we could sell millions of dollars more in merchandise if we keep coming up with new uniforms."

Um i didn't try to come off mean. I am confused about what you are mad about though. I just wanted to point out that those three teams have alts. I honestly don't think Iowa State needs flashy unis too.

I will agree that nike plays a bigger part of oregons success compared to just the alt uniforms. It is litterally nike u.

Oh, whoops, sometimes my mind wanders. What I was trying to say is i was unaware that they had alts. I should have known that. my bad.

I just want to point out that you are CF's resident dog. I think it fits you well: lovable, loyal and occasionally craps on the rug.

I only wish my dog could use the heavy sarcasm that bringmagicback used and continuously have poor idiots fall into his trap for my enjoyment.

It's simply amusing to read grown men bicker about an outfit...white helmets, throwbacks, Nike elite, etc .....just lame. No offense, but of any of you think you know how to design football uniforms...you are wrong. Second, get over it. If this isn't a keeping up with jones' I don't know what is.

First and foremost, the trice era throwbacks aren't that cool. They are rugby uniforms that will be bad...it's a good effort, but needs some serious tweaking before it wouldn't look like some Canadian football league club team. Black helmets? No comment necessary. White helmets...Well we saw what the gold jerseys look like, so little confidence there...

Be happy we have what we have and worry about something worth worrying about...not getting blown out on TV vs. the color of the helmet. Geezus...

Should we just shut down CF entirely while we're at it? I think most of the uniform/helmet threads are ridiculous as well, but the whole point of this site is conversation. And considering it's in the middle of the summer, I didn't realize there was much conversation about getting blown out on TV. Not that that is much in our control anyway. But hey, if you aren't open to conversation, you're free to leave the site entirely. I'm not sure anyone will miss you.

Haha. "Bickering about uniforms is dumb. Let me tell you what uniforms I don't like and why they don't work." That was great.

I think that Iowa state should have white helmets and also all black jerseys. The color scheme would look sick! Also, I would also like to see a "throwback" with the bird on the helmet from the Seneca Wallace-Troy Davis era. Uniforms always help with recruiting if you don't go too crazy
