KC weekend

I am heading to KC tomorrow and Thursday. Girlfriend has tickets to Carrie Underwood, and my treat was tickets to the Royals/Rays for Thursday. Now of course there is snow in the forecast for Thursday!

I do plan on seeing the Negro League Baseball Museum, and I suppose there could be a lot worse things than staring at Carrie U for a couple hours Wed night. So the weather won't ruin it all.

Anybody ever been to the College Basketball Experience? I'll be down there this weekend with time to kill Saturday, wasn't sure if its worth checking out.

My favorite stuff in KC...

Beer - Flying Saucer in P&L
Bars - Velvet Dog, The Foundry, Kelly's, The Union, The Cashew
Food - Oklahoma Joe's, Jack Stack, Blanc Burger, El Patron, Rudy's Taqueria, Eggtc., Joe's Pizza, Korma Sutra, Kona Grill
Movies - Tivoli Theater, Alamo Drafthouse
Music - Uptown Theater, Midland AMC, Record Bar, Riot Room, Starlight Theatre
Shopping - Plaza, Town Center
Sports - Royals, T-Bones, Sporting KC
Mountain Biking - Swope Park, Shawnee Mission Park
Disc Golf - Rosedale (2 courses), Swope Park, Waterworks Park, Shawnee Mission Park

May be a foot of snow in western Nebby. Enjoy. Take your winter coat.

Oklahoma Joe's is good and all but don't sleep on Gates, lots of folks down here prefer it to OKJs.

They are wrong. OK Joes and Jack Stack are easily better.
LC's, Smokestack might give Gates a run for their money.

Don't get me wrong, Gates is absolutely delicious but everyone I know feels completely terrible for about 12 hours after eating it. The salt and fat is just overwhelming. OKJ and Jack Stack have higher quality meat and are slightly less punishing the next morning.

I've always thought Arthur Bryant's was really fatty.

The Steamboat Arabia Museum is a great place to see. Didn't know what to expect when I went there, but was really impressed.

There is a restaurant in North KC called Chappell's. The food is typical for a sports bar, but there is so much cool sports stuff to see there. Everything from World Series Trophies to awesome pictures.

I had no idea there was an Alamo Drafthouse in KC. That's awesome.

Hard to be wrong when it comes to matters of taste. Catered in bbq for clients a couple weeks back and they wanted Gates over OKJ. You are right on that LCs and Smokestacks are excellent as well though.

If you like to play basketball, they have all sorts of challenges there: 3pt shooting, dunking on various rims (6ft up to 10ft), last second shot, etc. All of these are in mini-court areas and are a lot of fun. They also have a full-size gym with multiple rims so you can shoot some hoops. My brother and his son went last year and we spent a whole afternoon there. It's a little pricey, but I felt we got our money's worth! I found it to be a great experience - I'd recommend wearing tennis shoes and comfortable clothes if you go.

Resident pretty much nailed it. If you go to Oklahoma Joes, go to the original one off 49th and Mission. Not nearly as posh as the ones in Johnson County, but it's the original location and the smokers have that good barbecue build up that is hard to beat. Their Z-man is incredible, but they are known for their pulled pork. Fries are very good. Beans are disappointing.

If you want Mexican Food, drive down Southwest Boulevard. I'd recommend Ponacs for margaritas that you'll never remember the next day.

The Power and Light district across from the Sprint Center is a good place to hang out (lotta variety) for night-life, but it gets a little poser-tastic for my taste.

The WWI museum is a great stop, as well as the negro leagues museum.

If you are coming down this weekend, you will also be here for first Fridays, which is pretty cool to check out if you're into the art scene: Kansas City First Fridays - First Friday Kansas City - First Friday in the Crossroads

If you're thinking about coming back in May, I'd recommend checking out Rockfest: Schedule « 98.9 The Rock's ROCKFEST if you're into a fun all-day outdoor concert.

FYI: Okie Joes closed on Sundays.

Get "cowboy". Brisket, sausage, and ribs with two sides (fries and spicy slaw).

YUMMMMMM. I should just drive out there tonight.
