Tell me about Carroll

I lived in Carroll for a summer, but renting from a friend of a friend. Nice town. Typical Western Iowa "values" (politically conservative, hard working farming community, etc.)

I know there are Hawk fans there, but it really seemed like one of the few places outside of Ames that is a big ISU community.

Carroll is a nice town. Lived in Carroll County all my life. Has a large Pella plant, home of Farner Bocken and American Home Shield. More ISU fans than Iowa or Nebraska. Great golf courses and bike paths. I don't think you will be sorry.

Lived in Carroll County growing up:
Great schools, 1 public, 1 private
2 Golf courses
Smallish lake just outside of town, and bike trail to Lake View
Nice rec center and a new outdoor water complex
Good downtown for a small town
Home values stay very stead, not a whole lot of unemployment in the area

I always thought the town could use another 1 or 2 local restaurants. Tons, and I mean tons of fast food.

They have a decent sports bar that has been there a long time called Bloomers. It is just down the street from the gentlemen's club. My wife has also ate at the Winery/Restaurant(Santa Maria-?) in town and said it was pretty good. Like some have already mentioned they seem to have more fast food options than a typical town of 10K. Arby's, Culvers, Taco John's vs your typical McDonalds and Burger King. Nice little town.

Carroll is a really great town. I grew up about 45 minutes northwest of Carroll. My B.I.L. lived in an apartment at the corner of North Carroll Street and West 8th Street. I don't know the name of the apartment it was brand new about 8-10 years ago when he lived there. Nice and quiet- if i remember right there are 4 apartments on the upper level and 4 on the lower level. Unless something has changed I would check the place out for sure. Apartment is pretty much located in the middle of town. Down the street to the west about 4 blocks is Hunan Chinese- really, really good chinese food.

Since Lois Feldman and Ozzy's have been covered, I'll just add you should get a **** Adam Haluska t shirt.

I grew up near Carroll. It's a nice town if you are a small town type. If you are a big city guy you'll probably hate it.

I turned down an offer at Pella in Carroll out of college.

I live in Carroll currently... it is funny to see some of the responses from people who have just passed through here once. There isn't a whole heck of a lot to do for entertainment, but at your age if you want to go out and get hammered just go back to ames (hr away) or des moines (1.5 hrs away) and stay with friends for the weekend. Carroll isn't close to anything but we also aren't far from anything. So in that way it makes Carroll pretty unique. All in all you are going to be in a good and safe community. Good luck with the job!

I don't get it...

Thanks everyone! I was basically just wondering about places to live and what there is to do for a 21 year old bachelor. It seemed like a pretty decent town when I was there for my interview and I haven't really heard anything bad yet. I grew up in a small farming town and will be working in agriculture so it sounds like a place I may fit in fairly well.

Where did you get hired on at? I grew up in Carroll and eventually graduated high school there. Is a very good town to raise a family but just isn't a whole lot to do. There really isn't a bad part of town really. The very south part of town called Rolling Hills is a nicer community of homes as well as the Collison edition which is in the very northeast part of town. Its located right across from the Muni golf course. There are apartments out that way but im not sure what the quality of them are. They weren't bad when I was there but not sure if they are now run down or if they fixed em up. There is also a couple set of apts when your just coming into the east part of town as well. These would be across from the Carroll Country Club. They appear to nice from the outside, as they put siding and all that on. I have a brother that currently lives in Breda and that is a decent town. Not sure if you want to drive that far but they have some places to rent or maybe a cheap home to buy. Its only about 15 minutes northwest of Carroll. If you have any more question feel free to ask or shoot me a pm.

Here here for Breda! Great small town 13 miles NW of Carroll with a nice golf course and great park/rec facilities--swimming pool, sand volleyball, brand new basketball court and hoops, bike trail to Carroll and Lake View, etc... AND lower tax rate and some decent places for rent or buy

The towns geography says it all. They are at the crossroads of highways 30 and 71. On the railroad, and no large cities to compete with for a lot of miles.

I've eaten at Bloomers a few times if I take highway 30 back from Ames. You can get a pretty good steak for a reasonable price. I wouldn't know anything about a gentlemen's club.

I don't get this either but my sister went to school with this Julie Adams.

Ahhhhh, not sure who Julie Adams is, but Lois Feldman is the bathromom culprit. Hawk Fan Says Bathroom Sex Scandal Ruined My Life

(My in-laws are from Carroll County and my husband and I lived outside of town for ~7 years. There are worse places to live, so for the most part it's not bad. The hometown crowd can be really self serving, younjust have to figure out how to deal with it.)

If I'm not mistaken, Walsh was the guy she hooked up with in the stall
