***NCAA Championship Game Thread***

Have not won since MSU in 2000.

When's the last time a Big 12/Big 8 team not named Kansas won a national title? 1946. And 1988 was the last time a Big 12/Big 8 team other than Kansas even played for a national title. Big 10 obviously hasn't been able to close the deal in the championship game recently, but it's had 5 different programs play for the national title in the last 11 years alone. That's not too bad.

I think the refs would go 2 to 3 mins at a time and forget they had a whistle. 2 quick examples would be the kicked ball and the goal tend to start the game. It is hard for me to believe 3 guys didn't see either of those plays.

Really? Michigan committed a ton of fouls under the basket and no calls.

I thought it was ironic how this combined with the inexplicable failure to foul earlier in the shot clock when they still had a foul to give in the last 40 seconds really wound up hurting them.

Not sure if it was just how Barkley stood up for the Cyclones, but I found myself agreeing with everything he said last night. He said at the half that Louisville had to go to the bigs, they did and they won. He said keys to the win were Hancock pulling them out of the crapper in the first half and that one big (is it Bohammon (?) or something like that) was just a beast down in the paint in the second half. He missed some putbacks, but actually made some with a couple Michigan guys hanging on his arms and no foul call. Really a strong guy.

The last couple of minutes, Michigan was outcoached, he had several timeouts left and didn't foul earlier in the shot clock with a foul to give. Also started worrying that Smith guy had money on Michigan as many boneheaded things he did in the last few minutes. They got a rebound late with a new shot clock and he tossed it up again. Made a hideous cross court, half the length of the court pass that sailed out, and had a silly ticky tack foul at midcourt in the last minute too.

Demise of Big East makes me kind of sad. Big East bigger than Big Ten.

True — and there has been only what, 3 non-KU teams in Big 12 era to even make Final Four (OU in 2002, Texas in 2003, OSU in 2004 — did I leave anyone out*?) This is why I never get smug about Big 12 vs. Big Ten when it comes to national prominence, as much as it's no fun to admit it.

The Big 12 has been the better conference over the last 10-15 years. The Big 10's parity is nice, but meaningless.
