Vikings' Draft

I've seen a lot of mock drafts that project the Vikes taking either a wideout or a defensive end with the first pick. I'm not sure about that, partly because I'm not sure that they have given up on Erasmus James yet. Partly, also, because I think they should just take the best available athlete.

I think the line still needs a blocker or two for AP, and I wouldn't mind seeing them pick up Tuba. After all, Pat Williams is getting up there, Pro Bowl starter or not.

Not that there aren't plenty of other holes, like safety, tight end...

What do you guys think?

quarterback defiantly, unless they are sure they want to stay with Jackson. I would think Woodson from Kentucky might still be around by their pick. Other than that they could use a go to wide receiver.

I would go with a DE or CB. We need to shore up pass defense.

I'm thinking WR and rush end in the first 2 rounds for sure.

A receiver that can hold on to the ball unlike certain receivers they have...that'd cure a few problems that Tarvaris has...

Jackson is coming around, slowly...but what if he doesn't improve much this year? The guy has talent, but playing D2 football in college didn't help him too much. Will we trade for McNabb?

I will be shocked if Williamson is back next year. He's fast.....but can't catch, run routes, or make adjustments when the ball is in the air. Oh yeah, can't block either.

I think Todd Blythe would be a good replacement.

Blythe will be drafted by the Steelers in the first round if Big Ben gets his way.

I don't see Blythe going in the first round...I hate to say it but I think any team that takes him in the first round is using their pick unwisely.

Be suprised if he goes in the first day, let alone the first round.

Is this (humorous) speculation or does Big Ben have some connection to Blythe?

Maybe we can create one of those unfounded internet rumors!!!!

Two drafts show the Vikes taking a DE from Miami or a WR from Cal. On KFAN
the sports radio home of Vikes radio says they are also looking at a tackle safety
and a QB.Because of injuries they are not sure who will be back, or who will be
let go. Williamson seems to be gone?? The DE's and safety positions need at least
one new body at each position. A free agent QB is possible but what will they have to give up is the big question. McNab or the kid out of Cleveland or Cinncy is one
way that is being talked about.
The DE out of Miami is 6-7 280 and the WR out of Cal is 6-5 220.

It's premature to know what they'll do with the first round pick. When the free agency musical chairs game begins, they're certain to try to fill spots there. Once they've filled spots in free agency, then it'll be more certain.

Here's where i'd rank their needs currently (10 pt scale)

WR: 10 - When Bobby Wade is your leading receiver, you've got issues at WR.
TE: 8 - I hope there's no way Shiancoe returns.
DE: 8 - Pass defense doesn't need Cornerbacks, it needs more QB pressure.
OT: 6 - Pretty safe to say that Ryan Cook isn't a long term answer at tackle.
S: 5 - Sharper ain't getting younger. And Cover-2 obviously isn't his strong suit.
LB 4 - Solid against the run, but a pass-coverage Sam LB would be helpful.

CB position is better than most see: Winfield, McCauley (with a year of experience), Cedric Griffin, and emerging Charles Gordon are an up and coming unit. They need the QB to have less time.

I agree with you for most of this, but I would throw in QB at about a 7. Even if they plan on keeping Jackson, they desperately need a veteran or good rookie who can challenge for the starting spot from training camp on. Brooks Bollinger and Kelly Holcomb ain't cutting it.
