How concerned should we be?

if they hit a decent number of the wide open 3s they had they wouldve won by 15-20

They have missed wide open threes all season. Probably shot threes above their average tonight actually.

EDIT: They shot 25% tonight. Their season avg is around 30%.

A stud in Jok? The kid is not half the player he was supposed to be. He is not exactly dominating his Iowa competition.

27 PPG isn't very good. Uh huh. Jok was the top rated player in his class until he sustained a major knee injury that he battled the past two years. He's now almost fully recovered and looks like the player he was pre-injury. The kid is really good and will be a heck of a player if he stays healthy.

Uh...in case you haven't noticed we have a pretty decent ballclub. They are better than we are even though they are young as hell.

Unfortunately, I haven't noticed that yet this year. They were better than us tonight. Will that be the case in February? Maybe. Maybe not.

Jok shoots 50 times to get 27 points - not a team player

Iowa just beat us starting 3 freshman, a soph and a junior. They lose no one of consequence after this year and landed a stud in Jok and another mature, athletic player in Uthoff for next year.

Yikes. Every time I saw someone on here trashing McCaffery the past few years I cringed. He's a damn good coach and will be a thorn in our side for years to come.

We should be just as concerned as Hawk fans were when they got curb stomped by Virginia Tech 10 days ago. We'll be fine.

I agree. We should have taken him instead of Hogue. Where is the upside in a Juco wing that can't score or shoot?

I guess we're lucky we only have to play them once a year?

Not sure what you're looking for....

I thought more highly of Iowa going in than coming out. We played like an exhibition team of talented players in their first game out, and somehow had some chances in the stretch.

This was our Drake game for this year. I thought Babb's defense was outstanding along with a good offensive game out of him. Some other players played decent stretches, but we were just too terrible for too many minutes.

Overall though- not worried. The pieces are there. Freddie just needs to sort them out.

Should be very concerd. We no longer have Royce and Scotty to turn things around like they did last year.

He can't handle, drive, defend, or jump. He is about a half foot taller than the competition and has to resort to jump shots the whole game. There is a reason why the recruiting services, and college coaches stopped paying attention to him. And its not because he is back. Sorry.

I hope this rivalry stays healthy for years to come as having both programs consistently in the NCAA Tourney would be a great thing. We have some fresh talent coming in next season too so let's not get too concerned. We have 2 Top 100 recruits in Thomas and Morris as well as some serviceable JUCO bigmen. We do lose Lucious, Clyburn, Babb, McGee, and Booker but we do have Niang and a solid core of young talent coming back.

I think it's time to make the switch in the starting lineup with Gibson replacing Booker. Gibson is much more of a physical presence and active body in the paint. We need to keep finding big minutes for Niang too. If it were't for Ejim I'd start him as well but who would you bench because we need Babb's defense.

If being down 6 with 3 mins left is getting curb stomped by a team that just beat the #15 team in the nation and is undefeated, sure...

agreed

I thought Iowa might get the win — Iowa State hadn't won away from home nor beaten a high-quality opponent.

But I didn't expect ISU to get schooled for a majority of the game.

If Iowa finishes below top half of Big 10 and ISU doesn't improve: Not In Tournament.

What is there to be concerned about? Both ISU and Iowa can have good BBall teams ya know. It's happened quite frequently in the past and it wasn't a big deal then so why would it be now?

I would say that neither team looked good though. People spent all off season taking the Hawks and now all of a sudden they're A "good team". You could call this a building year for both teams.

Here's what bothers me most about Hoiberg's ISU teams thus far... he said we were going to run, we were going to pressure, get turnovers, and fastbreak. We don't do any of that.

Iowa comes out and pressures us half the night, creates a ton of turnovers, fastbreaks on us, gets dunks on us, etc. And we walk the ball up and play half court uninspired ball all night long.

That is what frustrates me the most. Both Fred and Fran promised a high octane, fast paced style of ball, but only Fran has delivered that.
