Cy-Hawk face-off with Jon Miller

Bugs the heck out of me that I see a Facebook "Like" from my Aunt (uncle's wife) that shows Aunt Tilly likes the University of Iowa Alumni Association message 'Beat State'. Consider that her husband and three of his brothers are farmers, and several of their sons and daughters (my cousins numbering about 7-8) ALL went to Iowa State. One cousin played volleyball and was all-conference for Iowa State. My father went to Iowa State as did myself and my brother. All told we have at least a dozen ISU alumni in the family and NOT ONE person who has attended Iowa. As far as I know, her son (my cousin) from Dubuque who graduated from Wartburg is a huge Hawk fan and that's her connection. It was the wife's Facebook page, so I resisted the urge to say "Just who in our extended family is an Iowa Alum?" I just.... don't... get it.
So you are saying that if my brothers and sisters went to Iowa and someday my kids do then I should become a hok fan? Not happening

Just because you went to school does not mean you have to be a fan of their sports teams and just because you didn't go to a school does not mean you can't be a fan of their sports teams. These arbitrary sports fan rules that people make up are ridiculous.

Fandom is stupid when you really analyze it. There's no vested interest other than interest in the outcome to take pride for others accomplishments.

Go Cyclones

I know what you mean. It just seems so weird that she wouldn't favor Iowa State with the family history and farming focus. She's a wonderful lady, so it's not a big deal. I'll allow her to have one that one flaw, I guess =).

The ISU game isn't usually near the top of the list on games I'd most like to see Iowa win but they're always on the top of the list of games I don't want Iowa to lose, if that makes any sense. I have a feeling many ISU fans probably feel the same way. This is a big "losing feels worse than winning feels good" game.

For example, if i were to ask "which team would you rather beat: Iowa or Oklahoma" many would choose OU and reasonably so. But if I were to ask, "which team would you least like to lose to: Iowa or Oklahoma" I think there would be more people choosing Iowa and rightfully so.
You could say that about almost any game. Which game would you rather win Tulsa or Texas? Western Illinois or Okie State? Now which would you least like to lose to?

Here is a thought, how about we all pull up our skirts and just admit we all LOVE this game. Hawk fans and Cyclone fans alike....admit it...we hate losing it but LOVE winning this game....LOVE IT

The only one I can defend is alumni supporting their college teams. That one just seems so obvious and in tune with what college sports are supposed to be. I don't think people who root against their college are bad people, I just don't understand them.

In my family it gets pretty crazy at get togethers.
I have an uncle who is a professor at Mizzou, another who is a professor at UNI. I have an aunt that is an Iowa grad lawyer and yet another uncle who is a psychotic tavern hawk.

I have cousins that are Okie State and Stanford grads. My two sisters and I, along with my dad are all ISU grads.

Crazy sports arguments...

He's such an ***. I liked the little political shot at the beginning. I hate the condensation he has towards Iowa State.

I enjoy hating Iowa.

People need to understand. EVERY GAME MATTERS. Unless you are playing a ranked team, losing to anyone hurts no matter who they are. Iowa needs to get over themselves. If they don't like it, suit up and win, otherwise, stop crying.

This x 1000! This is CFB so hawk fans can stop with the nothing to gain bs because every game matters if you aspire to a quality bowl.
