James White Reminds Me of...

I'd take White over Arob all day long...and I loved Arob. White has better top end speed and can get to the corner faster. That makes him more effective.

One of my Hawk friends said to me once,"That White guy is the best player ISU's had in 10 years."

"Oh really? As compared to who?"

"Uhhhh.....uhhhhhhhhhhh.....ummmmmmmmmmm.........."

I came to the conclusion it was the only ISU player he'd ever heard of. Probably just cuz he scored the game winner against the Hawks.

White doesn't amaze you with great juke moves like a Shontrelle does, but I think James White must have excellent vision and a feel for where the hole is going to be because he seems to always find it.

You see so many RB's that just get the handoff and then they don't know what to do if there's not this huge open hole in front of them. White seems to be able to anticipate really well where that hole is going to open up at.

If not for Johnson, Woody, and Nealy all getting reps at RB this year, I think you'd see White go for over 1,000 yds pretty easily, but with how many guys we're going to rotate in there, I don't think he'll get there.

There's a BIG reason why Barkley Hill switched to Iowa folks, and he admitted it himself... there's a much better chance in IC to see the field at RB than there would be at ISU... and he's exactly right.

Oh... and what is the status with Shontrelle anyway? I know there won't be anything official until he meets with his doctors this summer, but what's the word on the street regarding his chances at making it back? Would be great to have him back, but I just want to see Shontrelle be able to graduate from ISU as a healthy man.... whatever that takes. I would hate to see him come back and get severely injured. I'm sure him and his family will make the best decision they can. Good luck to him.

From what i have heard (which may or may not be true) this will likely come down to a decision from Shontrelle and his family.

White > ARob

And I don't think it's close.

It's close. You have to remember that ARob was asked to do everything and was playing hurt a lot. White has the opportunity to be much more fresh and he doesn't have to do things that don't suit his skillset. White is younger than the ARob we are comparing against but I think they are pretty close right now and I don't think White will go clear beyond him, however I do think he will be a better player.

I love ARob, but White has more potential. I think White is already at the level of where ARob was by the time he left ISU. I have little doubt that White will be the feature RB his last two seasons. The kid just gets it done. I just find it interesting that CPR said that White is a different beast when the lights come on, compared to practice. The kid is a rising star.

Thanks!

I think ARob was a more physical/stronger back, but James White has the top end speed that ARob never was able to have/maintain due to pull groin muscles.

James White wheel routes for TD's are becoming a staple of big upsets (Iowa, OSU).

I don't recall any long wheel routes for TD's by ARob but will never forget the bull rush up the middle for a TD against Texas for the win. And of course, being a bigger back he was a better blocker in pass protection.

Arob had a wheel route touchdown against Nebraska in Ames a few years ago and another the year before against Colorado. I think both of them were around 20 yards.

Arob got the tough yards and was always good for 80-100 yds. White seems to either hit a homerun or get shut out. Seems like he gets 40 yds or 180. I dont think white is better right now than arob was, some of you guys just get a chubby because he has that homerun threat. I think he has the potential to be better but he has to get the tough 3-4 yds.

And long ones against Army, OSU, Kansas at the very least. That was like our bread and butter play.

Really? Arob was better both his Jr and Sr years than White was last season. At the most they were close to even, but Arob was a better receiver out of the backfield. I like White though but I think people in this thread are way underrating Arob, he was an excellent RB for us.

Rux, I think it is time you get a new friend...

No he wasn't. He was his junior year but he was virtually identical to White in 2011 in his senior year. White also was splitting time with 2-3 other guys. Let's go to both players sophomore seasons. I will just say they are exactly the same. There is a 6 carry discrepancy but YPC were within .1.

I think they are similar in they were both asked to do similar things and did them well but they have different styles, Arob was banged up a lot his jr and sr seasons, IMO that made him a more conservative back, he seemed to hit some big plays early in his career but not as many late. I'd say White has a better chance to stay healthy because he'll split touches with multiple backs, Arob was asked to do a lot and it took its toll.

I'm glad to see a thread where people actually think we have a gem in James White. Last year at this time Austin Arnaud was trying to tell us he was pretty quick hitting the hole. When was the last time we had a back that could take it 80 yards and not get caught by a db?

I think our fanbase has severely underrated James White. He is my favorite offensive player. I love his quiet workmanlike persona. Not a lot of "flash" but a butt load of results. His making captain as a JR RB speaks volumes.
