CBS: Royce to NBA

Any time you lose 3 starters from a successful team, it's going to be tough. RW SC and CA will be hard to replace next year. Hope to reload rather than rebuild.

I think John Walter's said it best with his tweet yesterday. I think Royce could go lottery once NBA Execs. sit down and meet with him face to face. His play has gotten him to the late first round. Him being able to address GMs concerns will get him into the lottery, I really believe that.

I believe that too. He is such a personable and unique person, I'd take a Royce White with an anxiety disorder over any of these other guys that don't seem to have their priorities straight. This is a good man, and I think it will be very apparent when they get face to face with him.

You mean to tell me if Brackins left after his sophomore year there wouldn't have been rampant ISU/World nutshot photos? I honestly think its a great sign that we can lose a guy the caliber of Royce, respect his decision, and trust our coaches to find a suitable replacement. It is great to have optimism in the program.
Not disagreeing with your assertion that the fans' attitudes have changed signnificantly, just adding that he certainly helped that change in attitudes with his play and the way he conducted himself off the court.

It sure sounded like this was going to happen when Hoiberg was interviewed on Monday and said Royce outplayed all of the high first round guys he faced in the NCAA tournament. It sounds like the biggest hurdle for him won't be getting drafted, but dealing with the rigors of NBA life and travel. Good luck to him, I hope he makes it. The good news is that if he's drafted in the first round, which seems likely, he'll have guaranteed money and hopefully he'll handle it wisely.

Now the real pressure starts. We
need Royce to be successful in the NBA. Fred's been talking up his contacts in the league. Royce will be the first example. Instead of talking potential, Coach needs to be able to point to Royce as proof that he can help kids reach their goals.

The selfish part of me wanted him back so we can do some damage next season and develop some of his weaknesses, but he is a talent and has a family, so I can understand his decision. He has the right man helping him in the process.

The good thing that comes out of this is that it happened sooner rather than later and if we decide to fill his scholarship, we have an opportunity to do it. There are players out there (Pelle, Lockett, etc). Just speculating, but Alex Orahki (UConn) has a season left and has graduated and can play next season without sitting out. I read an article he might transfer due to UConn's possible ban from the NCAA tournament next season.

Here's hoping he goes very high in the draft. Also glad Fred is the guy around giving our guys insight so they can make the right decision. It makes me less nervous they listened to someone without their interests who convinces them to make a decision that is going to hurt them long term. I hope to read someday after a long successful career in the NBA I read a story on Cyclones.com that says Royce has been added to a long list of players to come back and finish their degree at Iowa State.

Good luck big fella!

Surprised the announcement is coming this soon. Would have figured we wouldn't know until April at the earliest. Oh well - if true, good luck to Royce in the future! Sad to see him leave!

Would loved to have seen him come back one more year but fully agree with the decision if it is true.

Now it's time to see how my main man Percy steps up.

Percy looks like a very solid player. ISU will be better at that position than most of the teams it faces. Royce's unique playmaking skills will be harder to replace.

Soo...starting lineup for next year if the team remains like this?

I think you probably drop Percy into the lineup for White.

But I'm holding out hope for:

Korie
Babb
Clyburn
Niang
Gibson

Bubu, McGee, Ejim, Booker is a fantastic energy-jolt bench.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked to see Clyburn starting at the 4 in Freddy's system, especially if Lockett shows up.

(Selfishly) hoping that he is around in the middle of the first round so my Celtics can pick him up...he would look great in green and white next year. Thanks and good luck Royce!

Absolutely no way Ejim does not start.
