When will Clone fans starting respecting UNI?

Some comparisons:

Last year we smashed Drake by 48 in Ames (91-43). This year we did not (65-74). Last year it was close in CF on the road (54-60). This year they won going away in Ames (69-62). Do the math. The team seemed better on paper last year.

Last year Scottie scored 39 points in Drake and UNI games. This year he has 17 points in the two games.

Last year through all games we shot 44% to our opponents 442%. This year through seven games we are shooting 47% to 45%.

Last year we outscored opponents 75-71. This year it is 78-68.

Last year we were outrebounded 36-39. This year we are rebounding better 37-29.

Melvin has slipped from 49% down to 41% shooting, SC stayed the same at 43%, Bubu went from 32% up to 75% and is best on the team. Maybe Bubu should start. Babb is second best shooter at 52% and Allen is worse at 40%.

Thank you for making my point, Hok fan.

So me complaining about ISU losing to UNI (a BCS conference team losing to an FBS team, or a major conference team losing to a mid-major team), is similar to Iowa fans complaining about losing to ISU (a BCS conference team losing to a BCS conference team) ?

I don't know about anyone else, but that's tough to read.

He is, and he completely out-couched Hoiberg last night. It was pretty embarrassing actually. However, ISU should always have the better athletes, the better team, and the better coach. Last night we didn't have any.
Sometimes you start pressing just to get your players motivated. I think we are at this point.

We need a designated point guard like Bubu or whomever to set these shooters up. One needs to work dedicated offense to let the other four score. They apparently cannot do it by themselves.

The amount of switching on defense last night was crazy, and it certainly was not helping us at all. Yet, we stuck with it. How in gods name do you not at least try to go into a man to man D?

I think there is no doubt that UNI is the better program and has been for the last decade...in basketball. My problem is I don't understand why. They have a good coach. But, at some level money, exposure, prestige, athletes should take over...but it doesn't. It all comes down to coaching. And we haven't been equal since our last good coach...Larry Eustachy (whom we can bring back ANYTIME...I wish). It is annoying that for 10 years we have lacked a quality coach and it is frustrating to watch a team get it done on the cheap. I think the fact that most UNI fans are just purple Hawk fans doesn't help...I generally find them equally annoying. I also have a hard time grasping how they find these diamonds in the rough players right under our noses whom I have NO DOUBT if given a scholly at Iowa or ISU would have taken it. Yet, here they are at UNI doing well and we didn't even offer them. Just frustrated. UNI runs a great athletics program, overall. I commend their fans for following them, as I would have a very tough time following ISU if we ever were downgraded from big time conference athletics.

Never. UNI beats ISU because ISU is inept. If ISU were any good, it would lose to UNI once in a generation.

Thank you for making my point, Hok fan.

How does that poster opinion make him an Hok fan? For ISU to ever become creditable that is what needs to happen. They should never lose to an FCS team in football and I want ISU to get back to the point of the only teams that they lose to at home in basketball are top 15 teams. I hate UNI when they play ISU because they just know how to beat us.

Like Mantooth says in Anchorman "I hate you Ron Burgundy but goddamm!t I repsect you" That is how I feel about UNI.

Their fan base is a different story 70% hawk fans.

Quite simply put, never.

Does Washington or Washington State expects to beat Gonzaga? Yes.
Does Indiana expect to beat Butler? Yes.

A team in a power conference should never lose to a mid-major with the frequency we have.

Different story. Gonzaga is light years beyond UNI. They frequently make Sweet 16 trips. Yes, UNI is a solid team but one Sweet 16 trip does not put them in Gonzaga's league.

I enjoy following both UNI football and basketball. Usually quite a few Iowa "kids" on their rosters...that alone keeps my interest. And both programs play solid fundamental football or basketball. They aren't Iowa...that is a big reason why I have zero problems rooting for UNI...except when they are playing ISU.

Correct...you need to realize we are flipping out because losses like this are becoming the norm not the exception.

Lastly, please don't bring up "ugly" style of play. Winning is winning and playing the "style" card is sad and pathetic. I would rather win with five “unathletic” hardworking kids from Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota than lose with five superior athletes who can neither grasp the concept of team basketball or hard work.

Just because you say a team plays ugly, doesn't necessarily make it a slam. Tim Floyd's ISU teams played ugly and I loved it because everyone knew that was the only way they could win. UNI plays ugly and I'm sure there are knowledgeable UNI fans that will acknowledge that with pride. Making a team that plays an uptempo game play your slow half court game and lose ugly is beautiful for the winning team.

O'Rear was a player who had an ugly game and I hated him as a player. And that, my friend, is the highest compliment I can give him. His game wasn't pretty, but he was effective. That isn't a slam.

Ugly wins are still wins.

Over the years, I've seen hundreds of Cyclone fans go out of their way to bash UNI on these boards (including that dope who wrote that embarrassing letter to the editor this fall in the DM Register). Basically, ISU fans seem to treat UNI like Iowa fans treat ISU (i.e. annoying/inferior stepbrother status).

After consistently beating ISU in basketball (5 out of the last 6), going to the NCAA tournament regularly (including a Sweet 16 appearance), and beating ISU in football on multiple occasions in the last decade, when will ISU fans start respecting UNI?

I'm not an ISU fan who feels I must tear down UNI in order to cheer on the Cyclones, so I have difficulty understanding that mindset. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Anyone that doesn't respect them doesn't know anything about basketball. Repecting them and liking them are two different things. The last year or so I have grown to have an absolute distaste for them. However, our guys would be well served to watch how they play defense and move without the ball. But that has been the case for 5 years now, and we still don't do it.

We don't have to play as slow as they do, but we can play defense at that level.
