My conference tidbit

\

Using my best Socratic skills ......... "You seem very concerned about this. Even emotionally upset. What's really eating at you so much............?? Please tell me more??"

Now you vent for an hour or so with me asking open ended questions until you calm down some and then I say:

"I think things are going to be OK. I don't think it is as bad as you do, perhaps we should let it play out and see where we end up. But I have to be honest with you, I'm very confident that Iowa State is going to be just fine. And I need to tell you that the Big xii is doing all it can to not only survive but thrive - We have a tremendous university here with a long list of desirable attributes. "And it is not every school for themselves as some believe, we have built some very strong allies over the last couple years."

Then I get up and walk away.

I am very confident too. I would challenge to find evidence of a chicken little attitude from me. The difference is I'm not blind to the fact that it will still take work to keep Oklahoma.

So sad that the focus is no longer on the kids & the games they play & what we love to watch-Greed/ego/and personal agendas have taken over

I highly recommend this read -- it was brought up weeks ago and the OP was called niave.

OK, but a conference with the teams gone he mentioned is going to get much, if any pay raise. We have no case to seek reimbursement because or conference isn't that good. That's the key. Sure we will keep what we have but everyone else will be passing us up. With Texas and OK as well as their sister schools, we are a conference that can likely get as much as any per team but without them we aren't.

OK. My eyes burn. Read over 5000 posts on the one thread and now this thread. Let's take it for what it is worth. ISU is a helluva University and will NEVER fail. Where we end up, wherever that is will be will be an upgrade to what they have now. BUT, time to merge some thoughts. rebecacy is in on something. Too many signs pointing to the $$$$ to exit the 12. Also article on ESPN/Fox etc. makes crazy sense. We need to trust JP and GG.

Another question for those in know. If OU, OSU or whoever want to bolt, wouldn't we have the same "waiver clause" All I see is a very long and unecessary mess.

What's in the article won't happen but the threat is real...... it is just another example (I've tried every way I know how to point out) that WE don't need them. I'm done arguing but predict, we will get some great teams to join us ----- Texas is not needed and the little boys have figured that out and joined together. Even Oklahoma is on board and took the lead in delivering the message. The plan is in motion, we have called their bluff and (even tho it won't happen) I hope they take their ball, ego and the money they won't share equitably and go away forever. Where are all the folks that wanted us to be pro-active. Well here it is and it is a brilliant plan.

This is what I am sayin. rebecacy knows something. Can't give sources. There is a reason. Tell me I'm right rebecacy.

T. Boone Pickens is on the OSU game. Basically saying the Big10/SEC bylaw model should be adopted in the Big12 and we will know VERY SOON the results of all this stuff. He'd like to see A&M stay and suggested they may.

so rebecacy, if Texas would leave, is there any chance that a&m sticks around? I assume not.

There is a way. Certainly some egos will need to be checked. But the alternatives for all are poor. Schools leave, other schools sue. No conference wants to take this on IMO

Yep, he sounded pretty positive about the Big 12 staying together and actually said more than I expected him to say.

speculative summary:
Baylor's Brains convince the rest of the "could be left behind crowd" they have a very strong legal argument to get paid not by A&M but by the networks, the could be left behind crowd digs in while OU is flexing its muscles with UT. UT appeases OU, happily ever after is proclaimed to give more time to see if there is merit to Baylor's Brains. Prediction - we will be dealing with this again as the powers figure out how to out manuever the lawsuit minded could be left behind crowd. This thread reaches 100,000 by the year 2013

All I am saying is that we are better off with Texas.

First, I am an Iowan. Second, I am an Iowa alum and a Hawkeye fan. Wanted to make sure I said that up front. I'm not a "troll" and I only root against Iowa State when they line up against Iowa.

That all out there, I am curious how this will shake out for ISU in terms of what makes the most sense for all sports involved. Clearly, ISU cannot go to the Mountain West or MAC. You simply draw too many fans in the revenue sports to be relegated to these conferences. Oddly enough, ISU would likely be extremely competitive in those conferences from day one, but what does dominating these mid-major type conferences get a school? Yep- a nine seed in the NCAA tournament or a trip to Detroit for a bowl game.

Does the Big East make sense? For ISU I'd say yes- tough in basketball, but for the most part ISU would be able to hold its own. But does ISU make sense for the Big East? Only if there is legislation passed that requires Iowa and Iowa State games are never EVER on at the same time. That would be the best way to assure eyeballs on the tv that would justify the revenue.

I do know I want ISU to continue to be in a BCS conference- you really do deserve that. Certainly more than the UConn football team for example deserves it.

I wish you all the best of luck, except for this Saturday, and hope ISU finds a good home.
