Oklahoma Contemplating Leaving Big XII

From what I am hearing, the time frame is to simply see if the Big Ten will take Oklahoma State. If they don't, its off to the Pac 16.

No way the "B1G" takes KU and KSU... I could see them taking us (ISU), Mizzou, and Pitt. Then going to Notre Dame and saying "last chance"... before asking Texas (assuming they haven't already accepted Pac-??? invite)

You know, if they can get to 16 teams, they could always launch a BTN2 network as they would have plenty of programming... Launching the second network could make the idea of taking ISU and Pitt a bit more pliable as they could (conceivably) get more $$$ from cable providers for carrying an additional station.

We're not voluntarily going to take less money.

I agree. There is no way we "leave" Big 12 for the Big East. However, you better believe that JP and/or GG have had some conversations with the Big East as a contingency just in case there is no Big 12 left. I also would imagine they are also talking to the Big Ten, too, but I think Delaney would politely say, "No thanks".

Any realistic league for ISU outside of the Big 12 is a serious financial hit to our athletic programs. I don't think any of us realize the severity of the demise of the Big 12 on ISU.

Im a Hawkeye fan but also a fan of anything in the state of iowa this makes me sick. I do not want to see ISU have to find a new home and i do not want to see the big10, pac10, acc and sec with 16-18 teams.

The thing that will really suck for ISU about going to the Big East would be increased travel costs. Even if the financial package is relatively similar, the travel costs will eat part of that up.

I don't keep up on the ins and outs of the Big 12 like you guys do but I don't understand the instability. The conference has some good teams with a lot of history. Is it all just infighting and political for a bigger piece of the pie?

Exactly....other items of interest.

Season Tickets could go way down just b/c the schools coming in to play (people there to watch Oklahoma or UTEP)

We go from playing 2nd fiddle to Iowa while we are still on the same BCS level too, playing 2nd fiddle, and and being demoted.

This also could slightly cause enrollment to go down.

Business in Ames take a slight hit when we go to the the BEast or lower.

So true. You may play Penn State once every 4-5 years. Don't see how this is good.

Done?....I hope your wrong about the big 12, but when your dealing with schools er universities that have NO F'ing Commitment to the conference, this is what you have to deal with on an ongoing basis.

I really wonder if anyone even remembers who started and unleashed this crap on the conference....

And the Winner is....Mighty Mizzou with their talking to the big 10 and that inducing Nebbie to put their hat in the ring and leave.....

Anyway I hope the conference stays together but my instincts tell me its just going to keep on imploding until the Longhorns and Baylor/ Tx Tech are the only ones left standing....But remember the Longhorns will still get their way er 300 million and be the King of the Hill or maybe we should say...King of NO HILL !!!!!

Wrong. From all I have heard, Mizzou was trying to edge Nebraska out because the Huskers had been trying to make the move for years on the down low, and Missouri caught word of it. You want to know what TO was doing in DC all those years, where you didn't hear anything from him? Story is he was lobbying all the politicians in Big10 states for Nebraska to be added.

Who is the AD at Nebraska now again? Who ended up in the Big10? Exactly. Who voted against revenue sharing for years on end? You want a bad guy, look to the west.

Yep, I think the Big 12 is dead. Pollard better be on the phone. Don't sit around and wait for the collapse and just hope someone wants us, because nobody probably does.

Realignment idea!!!

:radar: i said it first.
New BIG 12
Texas, ISU, KU, KSU, MIzz, Tech, Utah st, CSU, Houston, Air Force or BYU

If the Big East takes some more teams, I hope the basketball only schools like Depaul, Seton Hall, etc. all leave and go to the MVC or some other basketball only conference. The Big East should only have teams that provide division 1 football and basketball.

Very much agree. 20+ teams in bball? That seems silly.

Not having read pages 2-6, how much of this is posturing to get the Big 12 to give some more to OU, or perhaps to get other schools to make up their minds to stay or join?

don't use rational thinking.

One can hope this is the case, OU had a chance to leave last year and CHOSE to stay, the reasons they CHOSE to stay presumably are still in play today, hopefully they CHOOSE the Big 12 again...Texas is EXTREMELY quiet in all of this, makes you think they already know what their end game is...maybe OU is calling em on it or Maybe OU is just tired of this as well...who knows

Why is it always the schools that are rolling in money that are always complaining and unhappy all the time?

Since when does A&M, OU, Texas, etc have money problems? My word.. how much is enough?

But instead, they always want more. These schools were already getting the lions share of Big 12 revenue, while schools like ISU, KU, and KSU were getting screwed over. And they are the ones that are unhappy and threatening to leave? Give me a break.
