Updated Starting Lineups

Just because Fred wants to play uptempo does not mean we need to start an 3/4 player in White at the 5 position. Fred has said that Ejim played out of position last year because of necessity. This to mean shows that Ejim and Babb will play the 4 at times but it is going to depend on match ups, it is not something that will be a constant.

We will not survive in the big 12 starting White at the center position. Rebounding and defense will be key and we won't be good at either if we are starting Royce and Ejim as our big men.

I think our starting lineup will be:
Allen
Christopherson
Ejim or Babb
White
Booker

Reserves
Sledge
McGee
Ejim or Babb
Gibson
Railey

I think Allen is capable of running the point.

Allen
SC
Babb (plays 3/4)
Ejim (plays 3/4)
White

1st group in: McGee, Booker
2nd group in: Sledge, Railey
3rd group in: Gibson, Palo
4th group in: McBeth, Law

We have almost 8-9 guys can compete at any given nights, which is really exciting!

It's nice to have enough depth to have this conversation. In years past, we didn't have the quality guys off the bench to even consider as a possible starter. We are talking about a 2 year starter, lights out shooter coming off the bench for his senior season. That is crazy to me. We could see guys having off-nights and still having enough firepower to win. I'm so excited to see how this Italy trip plays out!

Ejim needs to be a 3 but with the way that he played last year @ the 4 I could see him playing it again this year. Until we get better up front (damn you, Godfrey) we may just have to go with Ejim @PF.
I also think we will run enough on offense that position won't matter much. We will grab boards and look to push, as long as we have good spacing it really wont matter who is out there and at what position. I'd be comfortable with almost anyone on the team pushing it up court, and just as comfortable with almost anyone shooting the three in transition.

The more I think about it, the more I think we will miss Godfrey - speculation has it that none of our big guys want to, or are big enough to play down low, and bang. While Godfrey was "undersized," he did the dirt work, and produced. Mark my words, we will have a few games where he was the missing piece. As Chris has hinted, he may have started based on his trajectory last year. He wasnt a "5'" but he had the attitude to play it/ against it... He didn't care who was down there.

As it is, he's not here anymore. Would have been nice though.

That's an awfully small lineup. Three starters under 6'3. Tallest starter 6'6. Booker will be in there.

McGee
Allen
Ejim
White
Booker

RW and Ejim are both listed at least 6'8". Plus with the tempo we will be playing at this year I think a smaller lineup will be fine. We have a little flexibility with Babb 6'6" and Booker 6'9" to go bigger when we need to.

A lot of these lineups are absolutely rediculous! Nobody knows probably not even Hoiberg. All I know is from Hoibergs last interview about his point gaurds he basically said its down to McGee and Sledge, NOT Allen. Allen may help bring the ball up the court like Hoiberg said but he also said White may bring the ball up the court to. With Allens scoring ability you want him coming off screens away from the ball. Also you wont see Babbs at the 4, Booker at the 3, or Scotty at the 3. At least not in the starting lineups we may play people all over the place at times. Heres my starting lineup.

McGee with Sledge as backup seeing several minutes
Allen no doubt starts somewhere
Scotty, Babbs, or Ejim all have a shot here. If Scotty wins he will play 2 and Allen 3.
White no doubt starts somewhere
Booker or Ejim have a shot to play by White. If Ejim isnt at 3 he could start at the 4 and push White to the 5.

Once again we dont know but from Hoibergs interview if you actually listen to them we will play a lot of lineups and I think this is the starting lineup situation because he doesnt say anywhere that Allen is in the running for starting pg. May play a little or help bring the ball up but not start.

White might be 6'8"
Ejim is 6'5" or 6'6"
Babb 6'5"
Booker looks to be slightly shorter than White

Allen
Christopherson
Babb
White
Booker

McGee, Ejim, off the bench first also getting meaningful minutes, then Railey, Sledge, Gibson.

Booker is actually taller.

I think it will be
McGee
Allen
Christopherson
Ejim
White
With Sledge, Booker and Babb getting a lot of minutes. I also think Bubu will still play some and Gibson and Railey will get some minutes but not alot.

Allen/Mcgee
Scotty
Ejim/Babb
White
Booker/Railey

With Allen (starting) getting more minutes than Mcgee, Ejim and Babb (either might start) splitting minutes, and Booker (starting) getting more minutes than Railey.

Some of you have Babb at the 4 and I don't think we'll see much of that - he's more of a 2/3 who is able to rebound and play strong D and shoot like Scotty. I think Babb is the person I am most looking forward this year! (Outside of White, Allen, Sledge, McGee, Booker, and of course Clyburn/Korie the next year...)

That's my guess, too. A solid 8 deep with two more guys that get in there (Gibson and Railey). I'd be surprised to see a lot of Bubu, but not unhappy to see him fill in a little. A little, though. I'm not sure what he can bring that the army of guards don't bring better.

any lineup that doesn't start Brian Peterson and Sean Haluska is good with me.
You know what, i don't understand how Sean Haluska can shoot lights out in high school and then shoot lights out at Indian Hills. Then come to ISU and miss wide open threes and lay ups. Just don't understand.
