Report: Jim Tressel resigns

Wouldn't mind getting rid of this one either... an Ohio native!

I was just telling my father in law yesterday it's nearly a crime that Tressel hasn't lost his job with all that's going on. Glad to see this happen as Ohio States reputation was going down the toilet.

Interesting they're going to wait a whole year before hiring a new coach. My bet is on Urban Meyer becoming the new coach.

I don't think it's interesting they are sticking with an interim coach. The guys upstairs already realize their top players are suspended 5 games and there is a good potential that stiffer NCAA penalties are coming. They probably assume this year is a waste so why bring a new big name coach into a bad situation.

I can't say I'm suprised one bit about this...called it about 2 months ago when we found out he was lying!

Re: Tressel resigns

WOW. I'm legitimately stunned. I thought he would make out like a bandit throughout all of this.

Kind of refreshing to see that college football does have a limit of **** you can get away with.

Dear God, don't let them come after Rhoads. This is a Top 5 program. Praying for Urban Meyer's return to coaching.

No offense, but how would anyone sell PR to a fan base. He's a .500 coach who had a losing record last season. I think he's great, but lets' be realistic on this.

Rhoads was a GA for a year when Cooper was still in town, so there is a minor connection there. Not to mention Cooper and Bruce were both ISU guys that went to OSU. Gene Smith?

Tressel was a head coach at Youngstown State prior to taking the OSU job. Had been a position coach at OSU before, so he was a familar face. I doubt they would promote from within, depending on the severity of the penalties. My bet would be a good lower tier coach with Ohio ties. I don't buy the Urban Meyer talk though. If he retired for health reasons, I don't see how he would come back. Unless he were lying...but why would you leave Florida before OSU dropped their coach in that case?

Re: Tressel resigns

Dont' forget Gary Patterson (TCU) and Chris Petersen (Boise State)

I believe KF's name will be floating around and he'll get a raise with new contract

I agree it's highly unlikely the Buckeyes will come after Roads, but it's not like it's an impossibility. What if Roads has a great season next year and surprises everyone by going to a respectable bowl game. OSU won't go after a coach until after next season and they'll be under stiff NCAA sanctions so they won't be able to attract one of the elite coaches. They could view Roads as a good fit for OSU.

They did it once before with an ISU coach (Earl Bruce) so it could happen again. Will I loose sleep over it? No, but don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Last year's national champion just plucked ISU's last head coach, so stranger things happened.

You are correct. My bad.

And a pic of his wife, for good measure:

Talk about a guy who completely outkicked his coverage...

And those OSU players must be absolutely ticked - those OSU players HAD to stick around for another season to serve their suspension, the NFL draft is long gone, and Tressel bails out. Not that I completely feel bad for them - they made their own bed and now they have to sleep in it (as BS as those rules are - I still don't get why a player isn't allowed to trade his own personal memorabilia for tattoos if they really want to). However, just saying I could totally see this situation coming from a mile away - those players being forced to stay while coach takes the late train out...

I guarantee that is not the case at all. This was probably dealt out within the past two weeks as the inverstigations went further. Tressel "retired" in that the athletic department hashed out all of their options for the future and having Tressel leave was the path of least resistance.
