Picking at #12.

Looking at QBs I don't mind Gabbert, like Locker, hate Newton, and LOVE the value of Mallett in the 2nd round.

I would be very happy with two scenarios: Trading down to pick up another 2nd round pick or maybe an early third round and picking Locker.

Taking BPA at DE, CB, DT, or maybe LB. Then taking Mallett in the 2nd round.

I get that Mallett is an ******* off the field, but damn he makes all the throws and when I watched the Jon Gruden QB camp he was by far the most knowledgeable about running an offense and ran the most complicated offense.

I think Cam Newton is an absolute guaranteed bust because he will not be able to learn an NFL playbook well enough to be a franchise QB.

Your thoughts?

Gonna need a welfare check on Al_4_State if they draft Locker. :biglaugh:

Honestly, I don’t pay that much attention to the draft stuff, but I’m on board with you on Cam Newton. I don’t want the Vikes to have any part of that noise.

They definitely need to draft a QB at some point. I'd like to see them pick up some defense secondary guys (CB, FS, SS). Their secondary has been pretty terrible for a few seasons now.

I don't want Mallett at all, or Netwon for that matter. Very talented guys, but the off the field/mental stuff is too much. I've seen scenarios that have Gabbert falling to 12, although I think that is really unlikely. If Minnesota somehow grabbed him, I would be overjoyed. I'm really warming to the idea of Locker as well, although I don't think they'll be able to trade down much if they want to get him. I don't think he'll make it past the 20th pick. I would honestly be ok if they used a 1st rounder on Locker and then went DE or OT with the 2nd round pick, or vice versa and nabbed Jordan at DE in the 1st and a guy like Ponder, Dalton, or Kaepernick in the second round.

Of course they're going to look bad. You can't run on the Williams Wall. Offensive line needs some serious help. The stable of QBs last year spent more time on the ground than standing up. WR also has to be a concern.

Ricky Stanzi, Adrian Clayborn and/or Christian Ballard and Tyler Sash. Also, perhaps we can pick up somebody from the "others" group of Klug, Reisner and Donahue. You can give us the Superbowl trophies for at least the next 4 years. At least.

Has anyone here ACTUALLY WATCHED LOCKER PLAY? He's ******* awful. I don't understand how this guy is an NFL prospect. He has a big arm, and he's quick, but he's just not very good.

A gimpy Austen Arnaud (who is NOT an NFL prospect healthy) shredded the same Nebraska defense Locker went for 4 for 22 against. Ugghhh.

If they can re-sign Sidney Rice, I actually don't feel too bad about the WR situation. Rice, Harvin, and Camarillo are a decent enough group. Throw in Shiancoe, and I'm comfortable.

O-line is imperative. Is McKinnie done? If so, can Loadholt make the move to LT? That would be the best scenario, imho because right tackles are a lot easier to come by in later rounds of the draft. If Loadholt is not ready, then maybe they consider taking a guy like Costanzo with the first pick.

Wasn't Locker the worst of the QBs at the East-West or Shrine Game or whatever it's called?

Cam Newton won't be available when they pick at 12

probably not at 12, no, but depending on whether or not Carolina takes him, he may slide a little. If they surprise people and go another direction, he might end up hanging around until 7 or so. At that point, if a team liked him enough, they might try trading up. I doubt it will happen, and hope it doesn't, but this draft could go in a million different directions.

I know! What the hell do people see in Jack Locker? He is terrible! I don't give a **** what his 40 time is or how strong of an arm he has...he is not good. I will be colossally disappointed if they pick him. Hell, I'd rather have Dalton at 12.

Ideally, I'd like them to take BPA at 12 (or trade) and then get Kaepernick in the 2nd (or 3rd?) round. I like his game, and think he will be better than Locker....which I guess isn't saying much.

I think they would be best off addressing the secondary or o-line with their first pick. After that it all depends on whether or not there's a run on QBs in the teens. If there is, then maybe they'll panic and try to trade back up into the first round to get Dalton, Locker, Kaepernick, or Ponder. I can see a team like Indy or NE doing something like that. If those guys are all still on the board once the draft gets into the mid-late 20 picks, then they can wait until the second round to address the QB spot. If there's an early run on the QBs, things are going to get really interesting right around the 17th pick.
