Why is the score Texas Tech 31, Iowa State -45? Was this mockup created by a TxTech grad or something? <-- insert pirate dude here.
But seriously, my hope is that this looks better than it does in the pictures. As it is, it doesn't seem very well integrated into North end zone.

I think the idea is great, but to me the design just does not fit the architecture of the stadium.
It matches the architecture of the Jacobson building, which matches the indoor practice facitlity, which will probably match the new football-only facility.
With the news of the South scoreboard staying the photoshop guys need to make some new bowled in endzone possibilities.
The south scoreboard will be gone as soon as we bowl in the south endzone though, so the photoshops would be roughly the same in that part of the field.
The Applebee's Apple Crowd-Killing Apple Shuffle will be epic.
The Pizza Hut delivery of the Game giving someone 72 cents of actual worth pizza will look like the lottery.
The real challenge will be whether they actually put football stuff on the scoreboard or whether they clog it up with crap that makes us hate local companies and boycott their stores / services through shoddy, ill-timed and poorly made commercial announcements.
The marketing people will be in charge of it so I don't hold out much hope.
And I hope I'm wrong!

From an outsider I have to say it looks great. I went to the MU/ISU game in Ames last year and this will be a very nice addition to your stadium. Other than being a bit cold we had a great trip. You all have a nice stadium and the fans we ran into were very friendly.
Mizzou replaced a similar size old board with one of these new ones a few years ago and they really are impressive on game days. I think you all will love your new scoreboard when you see it. I believe I read Daktronics is the company that is building your new board and they are also the company that built our board. They really do an impressive job.

2b. If this had been built in the early '80s, I can't imagine how many students on the grass would've been climbing the tower midway through the second quarter. (best guess: 32)
3. I wish they'd could put something underneath it to (mostly) hide the Jacobsen building.

I think it looks great, it matches the Jacobsen well and I assume it will match the new football offices once they're put in. Considering all i was expecting earlier was a new sound system this will be a great upgrade. It will also be nice when the team is coming out that i wont have to look at the video board then turn my head to the team entrance. I like it.
100% agree. the way to have made it fit the "architecture" of the stadium would have been to make a 100 foot tall mound of Dirt to set it on top of, then poured concrete down one side. That way everything would look Awesome! I guess we have to settle for something that is, you know, reasonable.
We have heard a lot about a stand alone building, and a few others have mentioned this might be built into the south end zone project. Just going by the amount of 12,900,000 in that document, I can only assume this will be the stand alone building next to the indoor practice facility?
That seems like a lot of money for a new stand alone building, but I really have no idea. I'm excited about it either way. I love all this progress.

The spreadsheet I see has it at $20M, which is right in line with what a lot of other schools are spending on facilities like this (weight room, locker room, coaches offices, meeting rooms, players lounge, possibly athletic training/medical facilities). I think that Florida spent around $22M, Utah was more like $15M, but Tennessee was spending $34M. It's going to be a stand-alone building connected to the IPF. My only question is how they get the players into the stadium on gameday...whether they build a tunnel or what.
For the scoreboard, I really think it is going to look better than the renderings show and it will make a huge difference at JTS. I do wish that they would have something like the tan concrete block going up about halfway (to the level it is on the side of the Jacobson). Metal panels probably wouldn't look quite as good, but they would do. Otherwise, they're going to need to put a fence around those supports because some drunk-***** is going to climb them and fall.
