ISU MBB gets Hamilton tonight...nm

Thanks Chris. I'm more comfortable with getting him after hearing about the work ethic. They can't all be 5* guys and I think we can get behind role guys that work there tail's off. And guys like that usually are the ones who do what is asked, i.e. put on the weight.

Any thoughts on the remaining bigs?
Stutz and Iverson still remain possibilities, although Iverson not visiting Ames is probably a little foreshadowing of his intentions. Should Stutz get offered from UK or KU, we may get passed there too.

My guess is if either of those guys commit, Pomlee, Corbin Moore, and Chris Babb probably won't be offered. If Stutz and Iverson go elsewhere, they could take a chance on Pomlee. I think we'll end with 4 commits in some fashion.

He was at the scrimmage and was over matched with our 6-10 big man Brackins from last class who blocked him three times. He will be better under coach.

Can someone help me understand why we are so down on a 3-star, "high-major" prospect? Say what you want about stars, etc. but somebody must think he's got some ability.

McDermott wouldn't offer him if he couldn't be competetive in the Big 12 - it wouldn't help the program and it wouldn't be fair to the kid.

I hope we offer Pomlee to fill out the class. He'd add some really nice athletic ability to the frontline. He may look like Skogs, but Shirley looked like that in high school as well. Trust the staff.

Mann is the number one choice left on the board. Hamilton will red shirt. The staff also backed off Iverson because he was also considered a project (we could not afford both).

apparently we're just too awesome for skinny white kids with 3 stars behind their names

/sarcasm

Give him a chance before you write him off. Not everyone is Craig Brackens. He probably will need a few years to put on bulk and work on his game. Nobody ever heard of Jarred Homan either. Homan was a project. The only thing he could do his freshman and Sophmore years was hustle, rebound, and knock the crap out of people. By the time he was a senor he was ripping North Carolina Tar Heals for a 20/20 performance and playing pro basketball in Europe. I will take that.

Homan AND Vroman are two nobodies that came to ISU and by the time they graduated became semi-legends.

Vroman was actually pretty highly regarded coming in...my roommate was a manager at the time and I was working ISU bball camp when he came on a visit. I remember him being pretty scrawny but I know the staff was ecstatic when they got him and expected somewhere close to 10 boards a game from him right away.

I'm interested to know where you heard that, cause Florida and others didn't feel Iverson was a "project", so to speak.

I think some of this is a byproduct of losing Davila last week to VT. Hamilton may pan out fine but he isn't as court ready as Davila. And I'm thinking Hamilton was offered based on Victor's decision. That being said, I agree people need to keep things in perspective. Coach has made a living at turning these type of guys into impact guys.

And as far as the Dirk talk goes, if he's even half as good as Dirk, we want him bad!

Can't go wrong? Does the name Andrew Skogland ring any bells?

Skogs wasn't recruited to play basketball. He was a 4.0 student, scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT and had a National Merit Scholarship. His primary function was to raise the team grade point. Hopefully McD sees some BB talent in Hamilton.
