Franchise Ideas

If your looking for something down Welch ave. in Ames, how about a fast food burger joint?

That was me. I looked at their website and discovered that they are privately owned and not franchising at this time. Too bad, it's definitely some good eats.

That is too bad. Although you did solve the problem of where I am getting lunch in a little bit. Pepperjax here I come.

Double it up and toss a Hungry Hobo up there as well. Jimmy Johns and Subway are trash.

If I were you, I'd look at opening a Pepperjax on Welch Ave in Ames.
PepperJax Grill Their Philly sandwiches would make a flat out killing there.

Other than that, I would look into putting a Great Plains Sauce & Dough in DM, IC, CR, CF, Omaha...it would automatically be the best pizza place in any of those cities.

No dice, Pepperjax not interested in franchising at this time.

Most chains like that die pretty fast on Welch because they make a lot of there money on combo meals and soda. The McDonalds had that problem when they were on Welch, nobody would get meals including soda.

Also Quizno's and A&W did not survive on welch very long at all.

Welch could use something good there, but fast food chains probably aren't it.

This X 100

I don't understand the fascination that some Nebraskans have with that place.

There's very little worse than Runza. Though at least their name is very indicative of what you'll get from the food.

I would try and talk to the family that owns Tasty Tacos to see if you could help them expand into Cedar Falls, Ames and Iowa City. Something that I have always wanted to do, but I don't have the time to take it on. Tasty Tacos in those towns would do very well.

Important factors in starting a franchise.

1) There is a high employee turnover rate. Pick a franchise that can easily train new employees (I would think a Jimmy John's or Subway would apply here)

2) Have you worked in this industry before? Ran a business before?

3) Do you have a good portion of the capital or are you borrowing it? Picking a franchise that can fit into a strip mall as opposed to a new building, parking lot etc., will have a much smaller capital investment.

4) Many franchises want you to open several stores within an area as opposed to just one.

5) Location, location, location!

6) A franchise that would fit all of the criteria above would be Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. The are big on the east coast. They are not currently looking for a franchise in Iowa, but are looking for one in Madison, WI.

Just my 2 cents.

Just googled Runza because I had no idea what you guys were talking about. The thing looks like a gigantic mutated version of the hot pockets hamburgers.

Although you have said no buffalo wild wings, it would make a killing. Other than that, I think ames is pretty saturated with burrito places right now.

On a side note, I think in CF it will all be about location. If you could put a tasty taco on the hill it would rock. Although it would be hard for me to choose between TT and Sub City. I guess lunch sub city and dinner at TT.
