ABC 5: Hoiberg - Done Deal

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Its a bold move, but if he has good assistants he can close a recruit like nobody's business. He knows basketball, he knows ISU, and he has some of the best facilities in the B12 to work with. That practice facility is gonna earn its stripes.

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to conclude that keeping the current staff is the best solution. We need to let Fred surround himself with the people he believes are right for the position.

It is pretty obvious to me that GM didn't necessary have the best record, so why are people so obsessed with retaining the staff assembled by GMAC?

Scary hire, but I'm excited as hell. I just feel like Freddie will succeed because he wants to succeed, and will do the things necessary to make it happen. Holy cow........is Hilton Magic back????

Just what I was thinking. Can you imagine what Hilton will be like when the Mayor comes out on to the floor for the first time as Coach? And the casual, non-CF fans are going to go nuts over this hire.

You had a long time to think about this Jamie; you saw the demise of your last pick in slow motion. Way to use a 'scorched earth' approach to your search - it's exactly what you did last time.

It will be interesting to see if T.J. stays. I would prolly say 50/50 right now. He can stay in the Big 12 or scramble for another high position right now. I think if he wants to stay on the same track he is right now, he should stay in a BCS conference rather than drop down to Creighton.

More than likely JP won't have to pay Freddy a whole lot, so that leaves him extra money if he needs to bump up T.J.'s pay or Nurse's pay. While some people might be against T.J. since he was a Mac coach, you have to look at all of the talent he brought here to Iowa State. Mac was the one responsible for keeping it here. Unfortunately he didn't!

Um yes you will hear crickets.

If someone would have told me three days ago that Fred would be our coach today it would have gone in one ear and out the other. Unbelievable.

Wow....if true, I really want to see him have great success here at Iowa State, but wow...I really don't know if this is the right road to go down.

I beleive it was back in the late '90's when the University of Houston was looking for a new head coach. They hired an alum who had great success in college and the NBA. Huge local hype and a local hero. Guy by the name of Clyde Drexler, you might have heard of him.

The results? Not too great. I think it was only a few years before Clyde the Glide resigned under pressure.

Time will tell, and I'll give him a chance.

One more thing; all of you posters, most of you who have maybe 5 posts under your handle on this website who are telling us with doubts that we can't be "true" Cyclone fans need to back away from the keyboard and shut the f*ck up! Nothing pisses me off more on here than a bunch of sanctimonious know-it-alls who demand that we guzzle just as much Kool-Aid as they do in order to be real fans. Shut up.

because in reality it is only one holdover, and that holdover is responsible for any talent that has came in the doors the last 4 years, and who will come in the door next year.

I love this hire. Exciting. My all-time favorite clone pacing the sidelines, i love it.

Who knows... He could be the answer

People have already sold this season down the river and Hoiberg has only been the "coach" for a few hours. How about we give him the benefit of the doubt. The man has been around basketball a while, he knows what its like to be successful in the Big 12 and he's already familiar with the Cyclones. Maybe he's just what we need.

Sure we lost some guys, but we also lost a lot of egos this off-season. It was obvious CB and MG both wanted the ball more than they got it., Lucca thought he was God's gift to the deep ball, and CC had attitude issues. Yeah it hurts losing JH but if he didn't want to be here then let him open up playing time for someone who does. Now we have a team full of guys that want to be here with a coach that wants to be here. It might be a bumpy ride but I can't wait.

I not worried about Freddy and recruiting. Fred is charismatic and he knows basketball talent. He will be able to close the deal.

I am definitely shocked. I would have put him the same category as LE and Tim. Pigs fly before they coach here. It falls in the same category for me though as Rhoads. I was definitely shocked and had questions but at the same time I was very excited to see what he would do here. Are you telling me as true Cyclone fans you aren't excited to go to a game to see what "The Mayor" as the Iowa State head coach. He is Iowa State basketball. The only person that might represent Iowa State more is Gary Thompson!!

Re: Who knows... He could be the answer

...So from now on, do we refer to him as "The Answer?"
