Hamilton Possibly Coming Back

Should Ham come back it would be the best news ISU basketball could ever hope to have during the offseason. What I love about Ham’s game is that he never takes an ill-advised shot and he doesn’t miss a large number of bunny shots as a great number of big-men seem to do. He plays his guts out and is a player who keeps getting better and better and better. If Ham or any family member is reading this thread it is important to know how loved Ham is among Cyclone fans! He has been since the first day he stepped on campus and busted his butt eating 20 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches a day and putting on weight. Wow! This would be such incredibly great news!!! Go Ham & Go Cyclones!!!

My guess is that 75% of college athletes consider a transfer seriously in their minds at one time or another. Who hasn't done that with their job within 4 years of starting? If Ham does want to come back because he was to quick to make his decision I don't see a problem with it.

I typically am not in favor of allowing the guys on the team to have input in decisions like this, but if they are fine with him coming back and the coaching staff is fine with it, I don't see how any fan that probably knows less than 5% of the situation could be all that upset over it. Ham would be the best spring recruit we could ever hope to get this year.

Not that the coaches should ignore the will of the team, but the coaching staff needs to make this decision themselves without the teams input. It appears that lately the coaches have let the players run the team. I don't think they can continue doing that and have any success.

I am not a Greg supporter, but it feels like those who don't want him back are letting their Greg dislike blind them. Ham coming back would be by far the biggest big guy recruit we could get. There would be a huge difference with 2 starters coming back vs 1.

I have no hard feelings for Justin whether he comes back or not. He's a young man who is making life decisions that are best for him, and sometimes that isn't the best thing for ISU basketball, and sometimes it is.

With that said,

Wonder how big the backpack of unmarked bills was that he got to consider staying :jimlad:

There was no big backpack. All spare money is being put into an even bigger backpack, meant for a certain non-player member of the program at the end of next year. :jimlad:(kind-of).

Every program has some drama. Just look at Iowa or OU or even Kansas. It's just amazing how everyone freaks out about a couple players transferring at the end of the season for McDermott. This happens at almost every school. And it happens to our very own Bill Fennelly in the women's program, but nobody seems to be bashing him for it.

To be fair, BF has his squad in the sweet 16 for 2nd straight season. If the MBB program was in the same position, I don't think the transfer situation would be an issue.

Understood. But if there is much more to this situation than we know (which could easily be the case) I would be concerned with brining him back if it would cause problems with the guys on the team. Guys like DG and Boozer are in the same boat as the coaches with all of these guys leaving the program too. Who knows...

I get what you're saying, and there's reason to believe that McDermott doesn't tend to have the best feel for what the team is thinking, but I think he needs to establish authority over the team and make it HIS, if we are going to have any success going forward.

Was just looking at some Hamilton stats. One that stood out to me was this:

On offense, he grabbed 13.7% of rebounds that came off. On defense, he only grabbed 13.5%. That offensive rebounding number is pretty phenomenal. That defensive one, however, is pretty pitiful. Odd.

Brackins grabbed the defensive rebounds because that is where most of his rebounds came from

I read on this board once that Phillip Bates was back too, though I have a better feeling about this one since he's still here. Justin Hamilton is back!

I get what you're saying as well with making the decisions for the team. My point was more if the coaching staff thinks it's okay he comes back that the players be okay with it as well. If the coaching staff says no way on Ham coming back for whatever reason then I don't really care what the players think.
