Billy Gillispie

Petey was a walkon. I actually doubt any coach will bring in a walkon who contributes more than he did.

It's great that he was a walkon. The point of the matter is that no coach will bring on a walkon that contributes as much as he did because they will be able to recruit kids to play the most important position on the floor which is PG. They won't be put in a position to start a walkon at PG because they will do a much better job recruiting then what GMAC has done.

It's a huge copout. You can bluster and exaggerate and misquote people, but it's just "comic relief".

Copout? Really? What am I trying to coput on here? I am not afraid to call it like I see it. Sure... everyone on here exaggerates stuff on here because it is funny and I do the same. To call out copouts etc... is really taking this messageboard deal far too seriously. FYI... If I remember correctly it was you telling other posters to leave the messageboard. Maybe you should click it down a couple of notches.

Once again, you show your complete lack of reality or logic. I have NEVER said any of those things (except defending KG, who was being personally attacked). Please provide the posts where I said those or SHUT THE **** UP and stop telling people they said things they didn't.

I find it funny how you can sit there and say that people personally attacked KG when in fact they did not. KG would pull the same crap that you are pulling now... Protect GMAC at all costs in every post. He provides inside information yet when someone asks him a question that he knows the answer to but just doesn't want to admit the truth he just simply ignored them. Thus they asked him again. Asking him a question a couple of times is personally attacking him? Really?

FYI... I will be more then happy to go back through your post history and provide you with the posts in question and other gems in there that I find. Won't be a problem. Also... you will notice that 99% of the time I use the quote function on CF to quote what others say. Who have I personally attacked today to draw your personal attacks on me anyway? I find it funny that the "Protector of all who are unjustly attacked on CF" is the person that seems to attack people on this board the most often. That sir would be you.

I have been supportive of the Iowa State Cyclones basketball team in the best way I know how. I have NOT been overly supportive, in my opinion.

another Petey hater? Why? I just don't get it. The kid was a walkon who played hard and played right. Sure he shouldn't have had to play 30 mins a game, but that's not his fault.

Dude, we should all love Petey, the guy tried his *** off here. Same with Haluska, great kids, helped the team GPA.

But what you just said here is the reason this program is such a mess. How many minutes did Petey take from DG two years ago? How many did he take from Buck last year? How many minutes did Sean take from Booz? Eik? even Lucca?

Greg stubbornly continued to play junior and senior walk ons at the expense of scholarship freshmen. What for? To win 14 games instead of 9? Get them in the game, if they can't hack it so be it. But at least play for the future.

Then to hear him say how he was "building a program" while he was doing this. And remember, this was when he still had all the good will for being an Iowa boy, and he was popular here. He could have explained that very easy, and most people would have understood, in year two, not so much year three, but I was still hoping he would figure it out.

It's disconnects to reality like these that have us having to go juco crazy now.

Anywho, back to Gillispie...why is it more crazy to think he'll change his alcoholic ways than to think GMac will change his losing ways? Discuss.
There are many people that have turned their life around that once had a drinking problem. Heck, Iowa elected a governor who had been an alcoholic and narcotics abuser.

However, I don't believe that there are many four year college basketball coaches who took over a program, drove it into the ground, and then experienced futture success at the same program.

This is what I was getting at. I don't think people are reading my question right.

And I imagine you have some type of compelling reason why this thing is crazy? Is it the fact that Jamie Pollard has come out in support of Mac saying he will be here next year? Or is it that our record indicates significant progress? Or perhaps, its the fact that it is too crazy to imagine that a group of disgruntled boosters has helped pony up some money for his buyout?

Waiting for some substance to your claim...

well for one, I personally don't even believe that JP will fire GMAC. Does he deserve firing? some say yes, some no but, if he fired greg, I don't think too many fans would be upset.

I don't think JP will hire Billy Gillispie, not because he isn't a qualified coach cause he is, and i think he could do wonders here. But I don't think he will be hired here because of the Wes J saga, beings that he BG was one of the main reason why wes got ripped out from underneath us. Does that mean BG won't be our coach? no, But i don't think president GG will go for it.

1st...Billy G. is not going to get hired.

2nd...what did he do at UK that makes you think he would succed at ISU? He had every resource at his disposal at UK and all he did was lose. Sure he did a nice job at A&M, but who says he could recapture that? He could lay a big ol' turd.

Then we stick with the status quo.

He took over a program that was dead and turned it into a top 25 program. I'll take my chances with him over the guy we currently have who can't finish a season above .500.

I know Billy is a little of a reach but honestly, he's probably a top 15 coach nationally. There's a reason he climbed to the top of the mountain and got the Kentucky job. It didn't work out so great there, that's OK. He's a proven commodity. I like the idea that he's a little shady but not too shady. You need some of that to win in this sport.

Yeah, as a preferred walk-on. It isn't like he was the prize recruit of the class.

You put recruited in quotes as if he wasn't actually recruited. Mac really wanted him to come to Iowa State.

Maybe Billy has changed his ways? The fact he went out and got help for some of his problems is the step in the right direction. On the court, he'd be a dream hire IMO.

Drive - you don't know what you are saying. He will embarrass you in so many ways. The guy is seriously F'd UP!! His best friend is Doc Sadler for god sakes!

Trust me - you DO NOT WANT HIM

Trust me, I don't want Greg McDermott. I would take Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, Billy the Kidd, a billy goal, Buffalo Bill, or some guy that played for the Buffalo Bills before we let McDermott back.
