WBB Recruiting continued...

Pretty big potential list now. I think we only have 5 schollies to offer to add to Fallon Ellis. BF did say it would be a big class.

MRED - Any idea where BF and JS are recruiting today - in car between ISU and KSU? BF mentioned something last night about a sophomore game.

Note: my hunch in Norman wants to go west - had visits to Cal, USC, UCLA.

Could Oliver be a potential walk-on recruit?

Highlighted my picks. I'd take Stokes, but I think she wants East.

Offers:
Taylor Greenfield, Ballard, IA
Emily Cady, Seward, NE
Calli Berna, Fayetteville, AR

Other names thrown around:
Kiah Stokes, Marion, IA (She's apparently visited at least unofficially and I figure we must have offered by now, but I've seen no report that we've offered)
Eliza Normen, Louisville, CO
Kara Spotton, Ft Collins, CO
Jen Keitel, DeWitt, IA

mystery player, NH
Sharonda Butts, Des Moines, IA
Markisha Wright, Des Moines, IA
Maddie Oliver, Roland Story, IA

Pretty much just a pipe dream for us though, isn't it? I don't remember hearing about anything significant changing there recently.

probable, but you never know. Fennelly has said his goal on recruiting is to always sign the best player coming out of the state of Iowa. A coin flip between Greenfield and Stokes, but why try to get both unless there has been "no interest" which we don't know for sure, other than a lot of people on here who know more than me say she was probably going to Maryland, but given the season the Terps are having, maybe not. Frese is a great recruiter, but I'm not convinced she is a great X O coach, yet.

Recruiting video on Stokes from December. She says she visited, Maryland, Rutgers, Iowa, ISU, Georgia and Standford.

Maybe it will be like you signature "She was born a Hawkeye but grew to be a Cyclone"!

Pipe dream? Fennelly has always been recruiting Stokes hard - as hard as anyone else is.

After watching Twistedredbirds linked video I really want her at ISU to. The play and interview were pretty good and I think she would look great in cardinal and gold.

And that video was only offense. Her offensive skills are rapidly improving (she seems to have better hands this year than last year) but her real talent is on defense.

True, but I've never seen anything indicating she had strong interest back, whereas with Greenfield we've always been in her top 2 or 3 it seems.

Stokes isn't talking much about her interests at all. She's made several unofficial visits (including ISU) and that's really all we have to go on right now. Everything else is just people speculating.

So kind of an HB-lite scenario. That ought to be a lot of fun.:jimlad:

twist,
keitel has been told that she will not be offered per family if that helps ya.
Taylor has been to 4 games since Christmas.

If we sign 4 for next year (Mansfield,Hallie, Cali gal and ?) then that leaves us still with 1 not counting the seniors leaving this year which would be 4 more, correct?

Getting old as my mind cannot remember all the names!!!

Free scholarships:

2009-10: 3 (we have 12 scholarship players this season)
2010-11: 5 (lose Lacey, Stuckey, Lightbourne, Mosman, Florzak, add Mansfield, Harris, Christofferson)
2011-12: 5 (lose Bolte, add Ellis)
2012-13: 8 (lose Williams, Mansfield, Cole)

Next year, 2010-11, we will be mainly a frosh-soph team (2/3 of the players at these levels), and there will be only ten players as of now: Bolte (sr), Cole (jr), Mansfield (jr), Williams (jr), Pop (so), Anna (so), Jessica (so), Z(so), Hallie C. (fr), K. Harris (fr.) Total of 10. We have all kicked this about before, and many felt that ten players are too few, that a roster of ten is cutting it too close, myself included. Although you don't want to give a scholarship out just to fill the bench, we might be on safer ground with 12 players, providing they have the potential to help. The other side of the argument is that if we have 12 on scholarship for next year and lose only Bolte, for 2011 we have only four to give, one of which is already committed to F. Ellis; and 2011, we have been told, is a rich class. Maybe a compromise would involve getting one more player for next year's class (2010), and going with eleven players instead of ten. I know this is more a summary than anything new, but I thought the situation was worth a restatement.

BF has said at the last couple coach's lunches that he is comfortable sticking with 10, and hoping for walk-ons. He said it has been a detriment to the team to not have a walk-on the last couple seasons, after years of always having at least one. Maybe he is planning on offering the top 5 of the next class, and hope for 4, to have 2 for the next year.

I knew he was not adverse to ten, but I did not know he was interested in walk-ons. I cannot recall the last time we had walk-ons. Have any ever played a significant role?

Touched on it tonight on the call-in show. Basically said he plans on sticking to the 10. They may add one or two, but 2011 is too big/deep of a class to not save the scholarships for it.
