Even with Taylor gone (he will be fellas) and 6 freshman, I'm really excited to see what we can do next year. We should be improved by quite a bit. I'm looking for 20 wins next year. Sweeping the state.

You reading the same roster I am? Not much experience on that roster.

So is Staiger much of a ballhandler or more of a 3? I'd like to have him on the floor because of his shot, but it would seem unfair to whoever wins out at PG, Garrett/Brister, for them to be the only ballhandler. So maybe Garrett and Brister are our starting guards next year. That is if Taylor gets the boot, which he should.

I'm sorry but replacing two experienced Big 12 guards with unproven freshmen does not equal 20 wins. We'll have similar growing pains in the back court as we had the prior year.

We're replacing three Division III caliber guards here. Not too hard to do fellas. And you can't tell me that our frontcourt isn't 180% stronger for next year. I think we will be the team to beat in the state. Which could give us 3 wins right there.

Our back court next year looks like Brock Jacobsen plus 4 freshmen - and that's if all 4 freshman qualify academically. It could be Jacobsen and 2-3 freshman.
That would make 2 consecutive years with no returning scholarship guards on the team. We could easily be taking a step backwards next year if that is the case.

I'm tired of looking at our basketball roster for next year. Seems like every time I look at it or it's discussed, someone drops off.

Ick.

I'm just glad that we will finally have a team with some basketball IQ next year.

We SHOULD be the best team in the state. We get Minnesota at home, go to Bradley and Oregon State. Plus the Las Vegas Invitation. By the time we get to B12 play we should have a good feel of this teams strengths and weaknesses.

These freshman are the future of ISU Basketball.

Looking at the 08-09 roster I'm excited about the future of ISU basketball:

C Alex Thompson (Sr.)
PF Craig Brackins (So.)
SF Wesley Johnson (Jr.)
SG Diante Garrett (So.)
PG Marcus Brister (So.)

(Unless Diante plays the point and Staiger plays the off guard.)

I know 4 of those 5 have never worn a Cyclone jersey in a game, but I see alot of potential there.

Don't forget Haluska! So we'll have 2-4 freshman and two walkons. Yippie!

we may be younger but i dont think we are any worse talent wise. we are bringing in frosh that have more talent than the jucos we brought in last yr in my opinion. and it didnt seem that the juco experience really helped that much. so that too throws out the experience factor...in my opinion we look better.

Yeah the future is bright, and don't forget in 08-09 that we bring in a true point guard in Domonique Buckley and another sharpshooter and Nebraska POY in Eikmeier. But there's gonna be some growing pains.

That is absolutely rediculous regarding the guards. Mike Taylor was not a Division III caliber player. Neither were Dodie Dunson or McInstosh for that matter. A division III caliber player will not get Honorable Mention all Big 12. They all had their flaws, and I firmly believe that the incoming freshmen will be better than what we had last year eventually, to think they'll be better this year is taking a massive leap. Our frontcourt should be stronger. Maybe we'll be better overall, but I doubt it. I am looking forward to watching these guys develop. But to think that the team will be better off without Taylor, McInstosh and Dunson(maybe) is just plain idiotic.

Garrett was fairly highly ranked, so he has the potential to be very good. I would imagine he'll be up and down throughout the season. The other three guys are no more highly regarded than Dodie Dunson was. Do you think we'd have been better last season with 4 Dodie Dunson's in the backcourt? It may have provided us better hope for the future, but we would not have been a better team this season.
