That's a lotta hooch

It does. Much like alcohol, but without the short term memory erasing, extreme mood alterations, and potential to kill you through overdosing.

I'm far from being a pot-head by any stretch of the imagination, as I quit enjoying eating massive quantities of junk food and falling asleep when I was about 18, but I thinks it's illegalization, and most of the war on drugs, is counter productive. The worst effects of drugs are those which are a result of the black market that currently provides them.

stop trying to have a civil discussion....this is a message board. Make fun of my mom or something, you ugly canadian...

dude, you're canadian.

I don't think the number of stoners would explode--but I absolutely think it would increase, and not by just a little bit. If nothing else, those who hide would be doing it out in the open. And being stoned does slow your reactions, does affect your ability to reason--that's just medical science.

and if what you said about senators in the 1930's is true--GOOD. Jazz musicians are dirty.

So does alcohol.

For the record, I don't smoke pot but do think it should be legal.

That's pretty articulate for a pot-head, eh dosry?

I've never heard of anyone dying from an overdose of marijuana but I have heard of lots of people dying from alcohol overdose. I think I almost did last night:sad:

I said pot is without the capacity to kill you via overdose. One of the reasons its probably less problematic as a legal drug than booze.

Rut row Raggy.

I feel like absolute hell right now. I'm thinking a little pot, though I've never ingested pot, might help right now...

You will get warm, fuzzy, and giggly. You will eat peanut butter on basically any food item you can find, and fall asleep to Cartoon Network. That's about it.

I don't think the amount of stoners would increase that much just because it's legal. I don't know ANYONE who's like "yeah, I would totally be a pot head if it was legal". Almost everyone has tried it, and those who don't do it regularly refrain not because of the legality, but because they don't enjoy the effects of it. Besides, being stoned isn't any worse than being drunk. The ban on marijuana is archaic, and exists only because some senators in the 1930's were worried about their daughters sleeping w/jazz musicians.

Bingo.

There is a great program on the History Channel on how it became illegal. It became illegal mainly stemming from an effort to remove Mexican Farmers (who grew their own) from Texas during the Great Depression. The guy who lead the push didn't think it was bad but he wanted to help out his political constituents to help his political career.

Thus Demonization of the plant began. It involved an all out Gov't Propoganda effort to create lies about its effects..... i.e. "Reefer Madness" and other movies who showed people jumping out windows, and killing their families with axes after smoking it. Physicians were threated into making outrageously incorrect statements in front of Congress as to its effects. These are just the facts.

Its fascinating how this and other laws that came into being based on lies and falsehoods are still on the books. I assume when I am older it will be legal as I don't believe I know anyone under the age of 35 who went to college who thinks it should be illegal. I prefer to drink myself but to each his own. Bottom line, there should not be completely victimless crimes in a free country.

I don't think it would be allowed out in the open anymore than alcohol is. Granted, I can drink in public, but if I'm sitting on a street corner, next to a school sucking down a bottle of Whiskey, I guarantee you, I'd get in trouble. I'm not toting good or bad, legalize or not, I'm just amazed at times by the short sightedness of people. It's not like the legalization of marijuana is going to create streets full of people sucking off of bongs. Worst case scenario a few more local businesses would open up that cater to pot smokers, much like bars do to drinkers of alcohol.

Personally, I've always been of the opinion that the reason it's not legalized is because of taxation. It's easy to tax alcohol, and alcohol is illegal to make without being taxed. Beer is OK and wine, but neither of these are easily conjured up into anything that tastes like the quality you can go buy at the store (not all, I've had some very good home brews) None the less, it's still not an easy process. Pot, you get ahold of a couple of good seeds and throw them in your back yard and in a couple of months, you'll have a perfectly good pot plant. It would takeover backyard gardening. And that would then lead to it being very hard to control the age issues. Alcohol is relatively easy to enforce a drinking age. But you are still going to have a hard time keeping kids from growing it, stealing it, or just flat out still being able to buy it from their local dealer who now, instead of smuggling it in can just grow it.

So beyond the taxation, there are still a lot of issues that would have to be worked out, to allow marijuana to be legal. I agree deep down, with the sentiment, that it's much less harmful for you than alcohol is. I also agree that we aren't going to have streets full of potheads (Actually, I'd personally like to know who's a regular smoker as I don't want my kids hanging out at a friends house who's parent might be a hardcore alcoholic.) None the less, it wouldn't be an easy transition. Although, I have to admit, If my kid was 14 and wanted to get wasted, I'd much rather they get high than drink a bottle of booze. I personally knew two people who drank themselves to death and another one who gave it the old college try.

Care to 'splain? If it's a good story, save it for tomorrow's thread.

I've been in bed since 9:30 last night hurling my guts out. Hurling pulled pork from Cheesecake Factory not only sucks, but you can just see the $$$$$$$'s flying out.

and in relationship to the thread, just legalize it. Buy cheap, then tax the living hell out of it so people will buy it from stores/etc. over people if there is a way.
