Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

As we've all read if we've stopped at an Iowa message board, many Hawkeye fans naturally assumed McDermott would replace Alford at Iowa. ISU got him, and Hawk fans were pissed. Do any of you think that Barta could work up the testicular fortitude to try and ask JP for permission to talk to McDermott? The chances are probably pretty slim, but if I hear one more time that McDermott "called Iowa before taking the ISU job to see if there was an opening" I might vomit, because, if McDermott really wanted the Iowa job, all he would have had to do was wait at UNI another couple of years, knowing a train wreck was coming.

Again, I doubt it would happen, but it might be something we'd start hearing about.

I doubt it.

Also, I'd wager that there is language in Greg's contract to assure ISU is greatly compensated if he leaves for either an in-state or in-conference school.

Nahh. Greg's a classier guy then that. He commited to ISU, has our full support and will stick around.

Plus it would be really embarrassing for Barta to try and get turned down. Plus throw in the really bad blood it would cause between the schools, I don't think Gary will want to touch that one with a 10 foot pole.

I'm not even saying that Mac would want to talk, nor that Pollard would let Barta talk, but would Iowa ask?

I do think Barta will call Pollard but it will be asking for some tips on how to hire a great coach. What makes me sit back and smile is Pollard has shown the EIU fanbase how hiring can and should be done...three times. Pollard has set the bar VERY high for Barta...

That's what I thought the subject matter of this thread would be when I read the title. I'd give this less than a 0% chance of happening.

If you are Gary Barta, there is no way that you can sell Greg McDermott. Yes, we think that he is a pretty good coach, and has a bright future. But Iowa has no choice at this point but to open up the checkbook, and hire a name. They have to hire someone that will make their entire fanbase happy, because they are going to be bad next year.

They have to hire a guy that their fans are excited about, and will keep them coming out as they try to rebuild that thing (think a basketball equivalent of Gene Chizik).

IF it did happen, then it would throw a log onto the rivalry fire the size of the entire state of Iowa. It would be just plain bad for business

You're right, it is speculation. I wanted to see if any of you thought that Iowa wouid take a chance.

*Barta dials Pollard*

Pollard: Hello?
Barta: Hi Jamie, how are you today?
Pollard: Fine, keep an eye on our football season ticket sales, near breaking the record.
Barta: Oh, I see. I have a question for yo-
Pollard: I told you before, the tickets for the football game are $90, quit you're whining!
Barta: No, it's not about that this time - although I'll call you later about it. My therapist said it would be good for us to talk it out.
Pollard: I'm sure. *rolls eyes*
Barta: What I wanted to ask you was if I could talk to Greg McDer-
Pollard: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*click*

I think it would essentially be career suicide for Barta to ask to talk to McD. The potential liabilities would far outweigh the potential gain in my mind. I doubt it will happen. If it does, however, Iowa's gonna have a whole sh*t-ton of egg on their collective face.

They're already talking about it. GMac isn't going any where for a LONG time.

Did you read this post from one of the EIU fans?

"And, I don't think Iowa would appreciate the O.J. Mayo type thugs that would be running around in Iowa City. Remember Kenny Pratt? You think Pierre Pierce was bad pub..."

Comparing Pratt to Pierce? Somebody's been sniffing way too much coke and I'm not talking about the kind where the bubbles would irritate your nose...:baffled5wh:

I told myself, "do not click that link, you're just going to get mad."

I clicked it. Wow, thier arrogance knows no bounds.

"Lets give Mac a call now. His Dad is a hardcore Hawk fan. I think deep down he is a Hawk fan. I really think he could not turn ISU down last year. May not have been his choice of places to go but the oppurtunity came up and he had to grab it. IF Iowa job and ISU job were offered at the same time, I have no doubt he would have chose Iowa."

Actually, in hindsight, that is just funny.

I get a kick out of the guy who said "no, he's a cyclone - ick. Wish we could get Tim Floyd"
