We got Brown for David Robertson. Not one of the major pieces but definitely worked out well.
Yes the Robertson/ Brown deal was the following year. But we did get Palencia for Chafin. Only other acquisition close to ML talent was yet to blossom. Alcantara.
Assad likely starts Friday. After that Jeb makes a deal. DFA Taillon now if someone picks him up after he clears we save a couple hundred thousand.
I was also a defender coming into the year, but it is certainly time.
Would it shock me if they DFA him at this point? Probably not but it just doesn't seem like the move Jed would make just yet especially given how many pitchers we've had injured. I think they probably will move him to the bullpen and see if pitching on a limited basis can get him back on track. He has been good for stretches with the Cubs but it definitely is at a point his starts are hurting the team right now and even he admitted that after the game. If we had more health in the rotation right now I think a DFA would be more likely but Steele is not going to make starts when he comes back and it sounds like it could be the same case for Brown as well so unless they acquire a starting pitcher or 2 at the deadline and Cabrerra shows he can stay healthy down the stretch I don't see Jed just tossing out a guy was pretty good for us down the stretch late last year. Now if the struggles carry over into hurting us out of the bullpen too then it will be a no brainer at that point as we start to get pitchers healthy and likely make some additions at the deadline too.
I know the league is cracking down on phantom IL stints, but this would be the perfect time to buy yourself a few weeks to get Cabrera back and deadline acquisitions in place.
Not sure you can afford to keep an unusable pitcher. Nobody would ever claim him but somebody might sign him after he clears. It’s not much ( prorated league minimum) but it’s something. More importantly if we add at the deadline. We’re going to have relievers that have had success getting sent down. I don’t think you keep him unless they think there’s some hope of fixing him.
For me, it's mostly the uncertainty of the next couple weeks. Assuming all goes to plan I think he's done after that, one way or the other. I don't think he'll be a bullpen guy on this team.
Phil Maton and Tyler "turd" Ferguson says hold my beer... I'd throw Jordan Wicks into that category as well. Maton at least is on the IL Wicks in Iowa and I doubt Ferguson is around much longer. I agree with RivClone23, I think they hold onto him at least until they figure out how the pitching staff is going to look like after the deadline and the health status of the guys on the IL. He may eventually get cut at some point but in the meantime, I would assume they are going to try and find a way to hopefully fix him in the bullpen. We'll find out soon enough I think because there is no point in wasting a roster spot on him if they replace him in the rotation and don't think they can use him out of the bullpen either. With the stretch of games over the next 2 weeks really can't afford to be in limbo with his role or roster spot.
