was curious after watching the video in the OP. didnt know that courses with 'royal' in their name have been granted that by the monarchy.

per AI:
A "Royal" designation is an official title bestowed upon a golf club by a reigning monarch, signifying historical significance, prestige, and a direct connection to the royal family. There are roughly 64 clubs worldwide holding this honor, with the majority located in the United Kingdom and former British Commonwealths.

If you want to get drunk this week take a swig every time they say Tommy Fleetwood is from there.

I would say yes, unless it gets so dry/firm that balls won't hold on the greens and also they run off the fairways into the bunkers or rough.
I say that's why Scheffler won last year it was dry baked out, no wind and warm.

This tournament used to be known for 50 degrees, rain, and all the wind you could handle.

I saw a video yesterday of someone (can’t remember who) hitting an iron off the tee on a short par 4. They said this guy is not considered a long hitter and I believe it was a 4 iron usually hits around 230. It hit the fairway and rolled forever, stopping just short of a bunker immediately short of the green. That bunker was 320 yards from the tee. Wild.

Saw another quote saying if "prime Tiger" was in the tournament, he might not hit a single driver/wood all week. Just hit the low stinger irons over and over and over, to avoid the bunkers.

It could be an interesting tournament. If the fairways are glassy, a shorter hitter like Morikawa could win. If the rough is burnt, a long hitter like Rory could win. We'll see soon.

First thought when I opened my eyes this morning was THE OPEN IS ON!

Then I flipped it on, and on whatever channel I went to first, they were showing video of the golf course for several minutes while having the most boring conversation ever. I never quite understood that, there are people out there on every hole playing golf, and you're babbling on about the tournament that we could be watching right now.
