***2026-27 Mens College Basketball Thread***

He's a great kid and I'm rooting for him but if Tony Bennett and Ben Jacobson couldn't unlock more than he is now, I'm not sure there is more. That doesn't mean he won't be a huge piece, he will, but expecting him to do things he's never done before after 4 years in college is pretty optimistic.

He's a great defender that uses his length well, can get his own in the mid-range and can knock down a 3 if he gets his feet set. That's a very valuable player without asking him to do more.
I can trust your assessment, so based on what's returning & incoming (not even counting what freshmen might add), I'd be completely fine with those elements. I wouldn't expect him to have any PG on a regular basis.

That is Texas and Oklahoma type thinking. We're playing Grambling State and Stonehill College this year. We can substitute Drake and UNI on the schedule.

We aren't playing them as they may beat us and possibly lose recruits. Bush league stuff. Regional teams, friendly rivalries, keeps revenue in Iowa.
Potentially beating us and losing recruits doesn't sound friendly to me at all. Nothing to win and lots to lose IMO. Give me Grambling State and Stonehill College. UNI and Drake have survived just fine not playing us in recent past.

I flipped over to the draft and they’re introducing players onto the stage like starting lineups. No applause from the fans present. This is really dumb. How long have they been doing this?

I get that, but the style of play is completely different. Pack line defense and slowest pace to no middle pressure defense and push the page.

And don't use Virginia and Tony Bennett as an example. Fantastic coach but again, different style of play. I would like to have a word about Mariel Shayok.

A local judge in Ohio has ordered an injunction for colleges in Hamilton County allowing those who graduated college last year and were out of eligibility the ability to play collegiately in 2026-2027. This is only valid for universities within Hamilton County (Cincinnati and Xavier)

Help me make sense of this. So two division 1 teams are allowed to play athletes who have lost their eligibility next year, but nowhere else in the country is allowed.

This stuff needs to be fixed ASAP

Interesting. I would had let the upcoming year play out first before committing a second year to him
Really smart from Michigan's side.
Let's you see how the season and recruiting/portal plays out over the next year.
If he kills it, you can extend him.
If he bombs, you fire him.
If he's just ok, you've really got another full year to monitor the situation, or you can fire him

These are the "risks" you can take when you have unlimited money

That's actually a really good move for both sides.

Gives Boynton a little easier job in recruiting and gives him a small financial safety net and Michigan keeps its flexibility if things go hard south. Reliable source from StL told me that Michigan tried REALLY hard to get Josh Schertz in the day between Dusty May telling them he was leaving and it becoming public so if Boynton isn't the guy, they don't have to risk Schertz taking another job next year.

I think he'll do well there, fwiw.

You could’ve done everything you listed without extending him now. This seems so bizarre to me.

100% the right and smart move, allows him to recruit as if he is still there and maintain the future classes but doesn’t lock him down for any real time. If we want to move on we can and then if he does great with the Durant awesome team he has then he gets an extension. Honestly handled perfectly with how late in the season May made his move
