I’d think they keep Boynton for next season just to retain the roster. Then try to hire a permanent replacement.

I think they're vey different. Boynton is just going to be around this year to keep the core together and give them time to do a real search. I think Whittingham hangs for 4 or 5 years, dude didn't forget how to coach.
Whittingham will just have a very short leash, I expect the team to be significantly better with him but with his age and the speed of the hire (plus close to zero Michigan connections) he needs to win fast. All the things are in place to do so.

Yes. Nobody is turning anybody in because it's unenforceable and everyone is doing it.
Apples to Oranges. UNI and Drake are not Power conference teams. We ARE above them...that's just stating a fact.
That is Texas and Oklahoma type thinking. We're playing Grambling State and Stonehill College this year. We can substitute Drake and UNI on the schedule.
We aren't playing them as they may beat us and possibly lose recruits. Bush league stuff. Regional teams, friendly rivalries, keeps revenue in Iowa.
You're probably right but if Boynton fails and is in out in a year or 2 was it worth it? I assume lot of contracts for players are set regardless of coach and most probably wouldn't leave this late but maybe that's nieve.
It’s going be Boynton this season and they will conduct a new search next season. Iowa fans may actually hope Iowa struggles this year
Michigan is pretty loaded again for next season. Going to be hard for boynton to completely fail unless he just can’t get the team to gel and they turn out to be Kentucky of this last season.
I also think Bond, Prather and Singleton can bring the ball up quite a bit.
If he's willing to be an interim coach. That gives them time to go after some big fish next year. Joyner would require a multi-year commitment most likely.
That's not Bond's game. He's an off the ball guy.

I don't know. He seemed to attract talent just fine, but the results didn't seem to match up overall. We'll see, sometimes a guy just doesn't catch the right breaks and the Big 12 was crazy tough during his tenure at OSU.
I have a feeling TJ is going to open him up. If he gets a rebound and wants to push it himself, I think he will be allowed to do so. Kind of like they allowed Jefferson to do. I don't think Jacobson's system really allowed that much.
It's why I think there is untapped potential in Bond's game and there is a decent chance he opens a LOT of eyes.
He's a great kid and I'm rooting for him but if Tony Bennett and Ben Jacobson couldn't unlock more than he is now, I'm not sure there is more. That doesn't mean he won't be a huge piece, he will, but expecting him to do things he's never done before after 4 years in college is pretty optimistic.
He's a great defender that uses his length well, can get his own in the mid-range and can knock down a 3 if he gets his feet set. That's a very valuable player without asking him to do more.
